July 2026
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

1-17-10 Red Fox

Our morning started out pretty exciting when, after much diligence, Jesse was rewarded with a nice red fox in one of his traps. Good for you, Jesse! Then after breakfast, we all got to see another coyote in the cow pasture across the road. Wildlife is always fascinating. In spite of all the morning excitement, we still managed to get ready in time for 3 songs before Dad and the oldest 6 left for church.

I stayed at home with Sarah, Jewel, and Joshua, who still have runny noses and coughs. I found myself on the slippery brink of discouragement this morning, so wishing they could all be better again so we could all go to church. God is so faithful, encouraging me through Dad; he reminded me that SPRING WILL COME. Tom had the morning sermon and spoke a lot about the importance of training our children in God's ways in order to pass on the heritage of faith that has been given to us. He read in II Chronicles 34, about Josiah's good reign from age 8. The second reading was II Peter 2, and Tom spoke of the horrors of hell (v.4), Noah who likely faced ridicule but stood fast in obedience (v. 5), Abraham and Lot (v. 6-8), wells without water (v. 17), and other things of which I can't remember all. Tom pointed out that Lot had to share the responsibility for misleading those of his children that stayed back in Sodom. It was a good reminder to me of the responsibility we have of caring for the children God has given us: spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and physically (which is why I'm not at church today).

While I was writing above, my 2 little girls were playing dollhouse. The mommy was Jolynn, the daddy was Kevin, the baby was Drew. Sweet. [smile]After lunch Dan preached, on I Chronicles 29:10+ -- David prays for Solomon his son. Then John 19, the crucifixion. Caring for my 3 little ones, I didn't get to sit down as much as this morning, but those two ideas are enough: praying for my children and pondering Christ's death on the cross. Lord, plant my feet on Higher Ground.

After chores, A. Sarah and U. Kenny & A. Devon came for supper and a fun evening. Joshua was quite impressed with U. Kenny's hair...he petted it so cute!

After everybody left, we did evening chores, put children to bed, and it got quiet pretty quickly. And now it's my turn; good night.
