July 2026

July 2026
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

Life Beyond The Pictures - December 2025

I've already written a lot about November and how it was a difficult month and how God was faithful as He always is. Behind the scenes, I was editing a book for a friend about which I will post very soon. I also have been seeking for better health and have made some diet changes which have resulted in some weight loss which feels really good (and also has expanded my wardrobe ha). I'm learning to bake sweets without sugar...but it's a journey. I've tried many recipes, some good and some definitely not, and am trying to find time to try more. I also recently finished reading Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austin. I probably read it before, but it was long enough ago that I didn't remember anything about it. It was good. The vocabulary words were great - many nice big words that we just don't use anymore today. Words like acceded, acquiescence, sanguine,  obsequiousness, celerity, efficacy, expostulation, invectives, licentiousness, felicitations, palliation, etc... and often several in one sentence. Took me back to college days - sometimes I had to re-read a sentence just to understand it. I'm definitely not as young as I used to be ha. Enough about me. Girls are done with college and enjoying break. In between social events, Jewel continues to work at 360YC and Sarah is babysitting or at the ice rink. Josh is still plugging away at schoolwork in the mornings and working at Yordy's every afternoon. He's looking forward to school break soon and has some projects planned... stay tuned on that. With an inordinate amount of snow so far this year, feeding livestock has been a challenge. Frozen water makes life busier for farmers. Tim has been collecting hay because it's looking to be a long winter...but as of today, December 16, he's not going to need as much...

This morning Jewel fed all three horses and let them out of the barn like she usually does, around 6:45. By 7:30 when she was leaving for work, Diamond was laying in her outdoor pen, looking dead. Jewel hollered, and Diamond's head popped right up. She does that sometimes so no worries. Except when Jewel took a minute to make sure Diamond could get up... she couldn't. Doc Hoerr came out amazingly fast and Kaitlyn came out to discuss things. Doc said Diamond's heart was weak. At 32 years old (upper 90s in people years), that's not unexpected. Doc said we could use a loader tractor and harness and lift her up and she would be ok; but next time she went down (and she would because she loves to roll) we would have the same issue. Her heart wouldn't reverse aging and her imminent demise was inevitable. Doc Hoerr fully supported euthanizing Diamond and sparing her further pain and trauma, and so he did. And I know she was just a horse but she was a perfect family pet and never gave us a moment's trouble and gave so so so so many kids rides  - too many to list for sure - and she let me ride her... Diamond was one of the best purchases we ever made; she was 100% net positive and 0% negative... and yes... I cried too.

And when I started writing this post last night I had no idea it would end like this, but it is what it is. That's life right now beyond the pictures.

Cousins To NY

From all reports, these five young ladies had a wonderful trip a couple weeks ago. Thankful they had safe travels.

Thankful for a warm house.

And morning beauty.

And a wonderful ASarah who takes nieces and nephews 4wheeling on COLD days. And yep that is Rafe with a big smile.

And that was Wednesday, and I left for Betty's visitation soon after. And it was hard but good because no matter what, God is good and He is faithful. And then we stayed up too late with Neil and June that night but would do it again in a heartbeat. And then Thursday was Betty's funeral which was also hard but also good because no matter what, God is good and He is faithful.
All. the. time.

Thursday night - this precious cutest and his dad came for supper.

The most unique way to eat an apple.

Well hello my friend ~

This was Saturday when Levi and Echo brought the kids over for some more snow fun.

Friday 12-12

This was the day I filled out my RapidPass at 7:30 AM. And if you don't know what a RapidPass is, shame on you. Download the Red Cross app to your phone (it's free) and find a blood drive and get out there and donate. The need is constant (especially this time of the year) and the gratification is instant. And the next one to need a unit of blood might be your loved one.
Anyway.
One of the first questions: Are you feeling well today?
Yes.
Yes, I really was.
Two hours later, I wasn't. It came on fast and hard: sneezy, eye-watery nonstop running nose.
So I canceled my donation appointment๐Ÿ˜“ and asked Sarah to make my food for me, and I hunkered down and drank lots of water and used a lot of kleenex. How fun is that?
By the time everyone else left for the Mel Kaiser Christmas, I was feeling some better and spent the evening working on, well, this blog I guess.
I was sorry to miss this nice evening, glad for the videos and px that were shared with me, and very very glad to be feeling better as the evening ensued.

And I was very very very glad to sleep well Friday night and wake up Saturday morning absolutely fine. No cough, no sore throat, no fever, no sneezing, no watery eyes, and NO RUNNY NOSE.
Explain that to me, ok!?

We knew the snow was coming again, so Dad picked up a couple bales of hay before the roads got bad. I headed to town and it wasn't bad. By the time I helped on a church shower for a very special Alex and Debbie, did a few errands in town (that I didn't do Friday because I felt cruddy), and headed back out of town - - well let's just say driving conditions were very less than ideal. It was a Very White Drive. As in, I could hardly see the road because everything was white and most people were sane enough to stay home so I had no one to follow. But I made it home fine and slowly, and boy was I glad to snug in awhile then. What a winter so far. Another 6" maybe?

And COLD. Good thing I was home to take care of an adorable Bennett so these kids could be kids (yes it's ok for young parents to still be kids).

And then a lovely evening with family

and friends.
Note to puzzlers: when your puzzle is missing a piece - check your hoodie pocket!

And then Sunday was another wonderful cold day of worship and then an evening of Christmas program which was delightful as always and now this blog is almost caught up so
the end.
