July 2026

July 2026
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

TK Christmas 2024

Family Christmas 2024 started off with some unwanted excitement when a silly cow tried to sneak into the creep feeder (boxy frame feeder thing built to keep cows out but let calves in) and got royally stuck. Dad & Josh finally got the dumb cow out, but not before Dad landed on his back in the pen (interpret: manure) and Josh was pretty well coated with slime as well.

After a couple of very hot soapy showers, all was well; and we enjoyed a delicious brunch.

Fastest story ever ๐Ÿ˜‚

A few gifts ~

Josh's knife was highly admired๐Ÿ˜

and researched. If I remember right, it was deemed to be almost a century old.

Beautiful day

Horse ride for one,

walk for others.

I got to stay home and take care of Rafe๐Ÿ’•
When everyone returned, I did a quick walk to the lake.

After our annual pizza supper, it was time for the annual program...my favorite part of the day. I didn't get a picture of Jasper at the piano; but he did great. Kiowa taught him a song!

She taught Flint too๐Ÿ’™

Precious to see this little crowd sing a song and recite Psalm 100.
(I think๐Ÿ˜‘ Hard for me to remember that long ago)

Life Beyond The Pictures - December 2024

I can hardly believe it's December already, and 8 (eight) days before Christmas. How can time go so fast? Days are very full and that's good. Tim keeps busy with his various duties at CIT and 360. He's also done some upgrades to the cattle operation which makes for much quicker chores for Josh. Which is good because Josh has been working at Yordy's every afternoon after a morning of studying. He gets home around 4:30...

Welp that was a few days ago, and December flew by in one. quick. BLINK.

With Christmas shopping, wrapping, planning, baking, cooking, cleaning, programs, events, cards, etc. etc. (y'all know the routine)... it is a busy time even WITHOUT a concussion and a broken refrigerator and a trip to MS in the mix.

So anyway - a quick catchup - girls did well and were glad another college semester is over. Sarah picked up a job at the preschool in Bloomington where she did her clinical and continues various shifts at the Pekin Memorial Ice Rink. Jewel continues working at 360 and hauls horse manure in her free time. Seems like it's never-ending (maybe because it isn't, ha). They both like to ride - Sarah occasionally, Jewel often. They also keep busy with friends and young groups.

Away kids are doing well also. Some have had travels and various house projects going on. Too much to keep straight, actually. Grandkids are growing like wildflowers. The usual wintertime coughs and colds etc. but thankfully nothing major.

And I keep busy doing what I've always done... cleaning and baking and laundry etc... just with less energy than ever before. Days are very full and that's good. I'm thankful for good health to do what I need to do...I'm thankful for Tim to slow me down when I try to do more than I'm capable of. I heard someone say recently, "I think that I'm 18 until I look in the mirror and realize that no, I definitely am not 18." I can relate.

Looking forward to our family Christmas tomorrow, and then a few more days off to celebrate the New Year, and then I for one will be glad to get back to normal. Routine is good.

December Part 4

 Sunday 12.22

12.24

Christmas Eve was low-key (just how we like it) - we took supper to GGK and enjoyed the commons area fireplace while we visited and played dominoes.

Christmas Day was low-key (just how we like it) - after church, we vegged and then a few kids came for supper and games. Some of us played Tractoropoly and I won๐Ÿ˜Š

Friday 12.27.
NEW REFRIGERATOR ARRIVED!
This was the best Christmas gift ever! The old one died a month ago; we all did a lot of steps as we used our basement fridge... for which we were very thankful... but that was a lot of steps anyways...

Friday night I think Sarah & Josh went skating (NO TAG or RACING); Jewel stayed home. Dad & I went to Morton for supper and a walk then came home to this cutest and his daddy

Rafe is one very adored and adorable baby.

Of course I'm not prejudiced!
