July 2026
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

Home Again

First a couple of px from when we were gone - photo creds to Jesse&Lucy.

Now that's an adorable child.

Last Sunday afternoon found a small crowd on the lake. Jesse took Jason down for a few minutes before everyone came in for supper.

After supper, just a whole lot of cuteness around.

FL 2022

We arrived at our Pompano Beach vrbo last Saturday afternoon around 3:00. We unloaded the van and settled in,

then were off to check out the ocean.
Beautiful and sunny. Kids couldn't resist getting in.

Then they checked out the pool yet too.

That night we had supper at Chili's and got groceries for the week. We had our first experience with a robot hostess (yes the robot had a gender. Her name was Rita.). And she talked. It was a little creepy, especially when she got stuck pointed at Sarah.

Sunday after church with our Fort Lauderdale congregation, we enjoyed a cloudy cool afternoon with A. Shirley. Kids enjoyed the heated pool.

Delicious pizza as always. Sure missed U. Dan.

I learned a new game: Ticket To Ride.
I didn't win.

Monday was rainy/cool on our side of the state, so we drove a couple hours to Naples and enjoyed a great sunny day at Vanderbilt Beach. Highlight was seeing dolphins!

Back to Pineapple Place. Supper on the pool deck that evening was delicious.

Tuesday was another rainy cool day on the east coast, but with U. Jerry's heated pool and Brett&Tessa's adorable kiddos, kids had a great day anyways.

We walked to the beach and fed the gulls when the sun briefly peeked out.

Kids enjoyed the huge waves for a little while, but they were too big for Josh so all headed back to the pool shortly.

Tori stayed back at Pineapple Place to work and read and relax, and Dad & I enjoyed chatting and watching kids have fun.

It poured a few times. And I was so glad for my jacket because the rainy air was really cool! Kids were having a blast in the warm pool though.

Supper on pool deck again and Idr what else happened that night.

Wednesday morning we headed to the west coast again bc... you guessed it... rain/cool forecast again for the east coast!
Destination: Tigertail Beach.

Coolest beach ever bc we waded across that lagoon to get to the beach beside the ocean (not visible in the picture).

Ready to wade. Sandy bottom was nice, and it barely got above my knees so it wasn't tough at all. Good exercise though that day. We walked several miles just checking out the beach.

After crossing the lagoon, we had to wander through a short stretch of mangrove. I chose not to think of what might be in the branches above me.

Many many shells on this beautiful remote beach.
Many shells + few people = my kind of beach.

Many hours were spent playing football and frisbee on the sandbar where Josh is standing. Sarah and Kinsey are in the deeper trench between the beach and the sandbar.

Saw dolphins here also!

Trekking back to the van. Sunburnt, tired, happy.

Thursday morning was cool but sunny. We checked out this huge indoor mall/farmer's market/museum/amusement park in Fort Lauderdale since it was pretty cool for the beach.

Then we beached it after lunch at the apartment.

After supper, a walk to see the beach at night. Lighthouse beams were pretty cool.

Friday morning Dad & I had breakfast at a restaurant by the beach. Delicious and beautiful.

Our view:

Then a couple hours at Hollywood Broadwalk while we waited for it to warm up enough for the beach.

Which it did, so we had lunch then headed to the beach again.

We had supper at The Lucky Fish.

Brave Sarah ordered calamari (as beef is to bovines, and pork is to hogs, calamari is to...
squid 😲).
I did not try calamari.

After supper, we packed up the rest of the van and headed north. Southern US was forecast to get a winter storm which we really wanted to beat. We drove through some rain and snow but never saw the icy roads that came later. We were glad to be home safe!

As always, good to go, good to be home.
