Thursday Josh made this sand man.

No px from yesterday lake, but kids had fun with Beth, Ben, & Olivia, and A. Sarah, Mindy, Abram, & Seth.

This morning was butchering day. We only did the 22 biggest chicks; with lots of help we were done in about an hour.

For the record - another planting of beans. 

And that's about all that's going on around here lately. I did a small picking of beans which served about half of us one night for supper; tonight for supper I have a nice gallon so we'll all get more than a taste. Can't beat fresh green beans. The plants are still pretty small but they have loads of blossoms. I have high hopes for many fresh meals and some to share; we'll see if any make it into the freezer. 

It's nice to have a few chickens done. Less food and water for the rest which does make life a little easier. 20 done, 40 or so to do yet...

Apples are getting close although there is only about a bushel total. Won't take long to do those up.

We've pulled a few onions and what's left are getting huge. Sugar snap peas did well and are done. Lettuce did well and is still doing well! Everything else is coming right along. Kids have helped me keep ahead of weeding so things look pretty good. My potatoes in a barrel are looking... interesting... definitely curious as to how that will turn out... 

Maybe someday I'll do a garden picture post for those who care...

Meanwhile - - - we had a 20 minute downpour this morning, and rain is forecast for this afternoon. Would be really nice to get more rain. Things are very dry. Our sprinkler has been getting a lot of use.

 Dad and Josh just headed to the RC store for repair parts for Josh's truck. Jacob just got done mowing, Ben is working, Kate was garage sale-ing and is heading to milk, and a few girls are in various stages of going to the lake. Which is where I might be going soon as well... or maybe not. This AC is feeling really fine right now :)

More Summer Daze

Monday we had three little Sauder kids all day (well, two Sauders and a Rocke), and we did lake in the afternoon. Lainey and Olivia were buddies by the end.

 

Evening fireburner.

Tuesday I had Auggie, and Kiowa and Flint came over as well. Two certain little boys were not at all happy that I was holding the other.

 

Little guy was having fun watch Grandpa drive his tractor. He stood motionless for like three minutes. Which is a long time for Auggie.

 

Spring cleaning.

 

That afternoon, Aunt Sandy came down to the lake with Mindy, Abram, and Seth. Everyone had a blast!

 

Yes that is a pink life jacket that he's wearing, and yes I hate it. But hey! A flotation device is a flotation device!

 

This is a relatively new stunt (as in, it was learned last summer), and it is done by piling three people on a kayak that is sitting on a dock, and then ooching it into the water. It sometimes works, but sometimes not.....:)

 

 

Then that evening, Dad and two boys got a load of hay from CIT. This is the first year in a long time that it was baled when there was NOT rain in the forecast.

 

 

Lotsa cats.

Wednesday I had Kruz and Anya, and we took them down to the lake with us for a little while.

 

Then that afternoon, Dad and the kids went back and got two more loads of hay. I was able to skip out on the loading part since I still had Anya, but unfortunately I had to help throw it all into the haymow:( It's really not all that bad though if you're able to ignore the hay rash, the gallons of sweat mixed with hay pouring over your body, the lack of air, the feel of your lungs, nose and mouth coated with dust, the heavy scratchy bales (although this batch was really light, like they were barely even 50 pounds), and the stifling heat. But if you can get past all of that, then it's really rather fun.

 

And....we appear to have caught a....mouse? Shrew? I don't even know.

Thursday Josh found a preying mantis.

 

Kinsey was over again to lake with us.

 

 

And Emily met us down there with the kids as well.

 

Awwww tired bud!

 

Can't beat Oreo's on the beach!

We then came back to the house and did the slip'n'slide for awhile.

 

 

And we got out the snakes!

 

And it slithers closer to the moms....

 

….and closer, before they ban it from the area:)

Friday I had Auggie again, and we went to the lake.

 

Mom took Ben for a boat ride.

 

And Aunt Renee came down with some kids; as well, Kinsey came too.

 

These two did a great job in the boat by themselves.

 

And then horse rides!
