July 2026
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

Omaha

We left Monday morning around 7am and got to the Strategic Air Command museum west of Omaha around 1:00. Lots of military planes plus a touching memorial of 9-11. Also a Holocaust display which was, as all things Holocaust tend to be, horrifyingly interesting. Just incredible that such atrocities occurred so recently. Hard to balance the remembering with the Phil 4:8 filter. Certainly this is true, honest, and just, but it's also certainly not pure, lovely, or of good report. And yet we cannot forget the past because if we forget it there's a good chance we'll repeat it. And that is unthinkable. Anyway. On to a few peeks at the SAC museum.

Headed to the VRBO next and found it unclean bc there was a mix-up between the owner and the cleaner😖. Scrambled to find a new place which worked out fine but just weren't excited about the extra headache. Such is life.

On to supper then to find the Bob Kerry walking bridge.

Henry Doorly Zoo on Tuesday.

This crab was huge. I've never seen anything like it before. The body alone was the size of a dinner plate, diameter probably 10-15". Quite creepy although I'm well aware that God makes all things good😏

These were amazing. Again, new to me.

After the zoo, back to the Lewis & Clark visitor's center and the water park. It was hot.

Wednesday morning. To Platte River State Park. Many fond memories of this tower with a bigger crowd.

Cottonwood cabin where we stayed the other times.

Lied Platte River Walking Bridge.

On to the fish hatchery which was a sad shell of its former glory days.

Rainbow trout. The only thing we saw there except carp which took over all the other ponds.

😕

And then we headed home because east or west, home is best.

Meanwhile - this px from Echo back home😍

We got home around 8:30 and pretty much showered and headed to beds. It was a good trip, but as always was so good to get home.
