July 2026

July 2026
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

Lanesboro Again

 Thursday 9.11

Dad and I headed north for a day together then met up with good friends on Friday. Flags half-mast everywhere reminded us of the dreadful attack on our nation 25 years ago. Surreal that it's been that long. In a way it seems like it was just a few years. I don't know if any firefighters or law enforcement officers ever read this but if you do - thank you.

We followed our noses for a couple days. Found some quaint local restaurants, a small family-owned orchard, a lock & dam, an antique store, a Cabela's, a National Fish Hatchery (much larger than a State Fish Hatchery)(our first time to visit a National one), many beautiful views as we drove, and not necessarily all in that order. It was delightful.

We spent the night in a quaint Iowa town and Friday we just wandered until we landed in Lanesboro. First stop was a tour of Jim&Karol's camper at Eagle Cliff Campground in Whalen. Really nice campground which, we found out later, flooded out the following weekend due to heavy rains. We were thankful our weekend was beautiful weather start to finish.
Anyway. Saturday we biked the Root River State Trail - e-bikes definitely improved the trip for Dad & me this time around. So fun.

Lunch was just as delicious as last time.

Root River Inn in Lanesboro. Highly recommend.
