Peach Daze

So after our weekend of travels to Detroit, this was our Monday morning - - -

Tuesday - - -

Wednesday - - -

Of course, there was life beyond peaches - - -

No pictures of Thursday. The only peaches we did were done in the evening; they were the soft ones that we sorted out from a couple bushels of Southern Illinois peaches that friends picked up for us.

Friday was fun with a few extra kids around - - -

Saturday – yep, more peaches - some of ours plus the Southern Illinois peaches - - -

And a few more dishpans from our trees that we picked Saturday evening. This has been fun!

On Saturday we were glad to have this little buddy join us for a few days.

Sunday evening guests – Henry went from being afraid to touch the horses to enjoying his ride on Diamond. Brave little man!

And this morning was busy again with - - - you guessed it - - - more peaches! And a couple more favorite little Baers.

Fun to have this blue-eyed little buddy around. Love his energy!

And as the end of peaches is in sight, I am thankful. Thankful for many peaches, both fresh and in the freezer, and thankful they’re almost done. Ohh yes we’ve enjoyed this year’s crop, but I think most of us are about peached out!

Detroit

Friday afternoon found us heading to Jason & Carrie’s for the weekend. I have no pictures of our trip north, probably due to the rain and heavy traffic which made for stressful driving and a late arrival time. After a good night’s sleep and delicious breakfast, we loaded the boys in our van and followed Jason & Carrie’s vanload of girls (and Caleb) to the Henry Ford where we planned to spend some time at Greenfield Village.

A parking lot incident and pouring down rain complicated the start of our day - - -

- - - but, being as flexible as a group of sixteen can be, we headed to tour the Ford Rouge instead, which is one of two (I think) factories in the country that makes all the Ford F-150 trucks.

Photography wasn’t allowed in the actual plant intself, but the rest of the building offered interesting activities and displays which everyone enjoyed.

Heading back to the Henry Ford on the tour bus – which was a fun experience itself.

Back at the Henry Ford, we found half the front lawn was occupied by a rocket club, which was shooting off kids’ rockets; the rockets would pop a parachute at their highest point and then drift down. The other half of the lawn was taken over by the Detroit Multirotor Company which had a drone racing obstacle course set up – pretty amazing. Some of these drones were allegedly going 80 mph down one stretch of the course!

See the headgear? These guys were using cameras mounted on the drones, flying FPV (First Person View) as they raced. Fascinating hobby.

We weren’t disappointed.

Well worth the wait!

Back to Jason & Carrie’s for supper and a nice evening for all.
