July 2026

July 2026
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

And Then There Was Ice

I made pizza for a crowd one cold dark January night while this crew did this,

and then Dad & I went out for dinner

while they did this -

Next morning -

Lovely house 😅

This was supposed to be a quick trip, but the ice was nice and the day was beautiful; so it ended up being a nice good long skate.

And maybe someone can enlighten me as to the appeal of this stunt? Which many of them enjoyed doing. At least they said they did.

Frozen creek, for the record.

Sunday evening💗

Favorites.

Kiowa, Flint, & Jasper's fine work (except I made I💗USA)

Funny guys. If I would have told them to scoop snow they would have hated it (and why would I tell them to scoop snow into the wagon anyway, huh??); but it was their idea (and they insisted they weren't cold) and they had fun. Only came in for supper.
Josh was flying his drone I think. Idk if this was before or after the drone spent a few weeks in the backyard maple tree. Eventually it fell out and operated like new. Go figure.

Happy Birthday Josh!

Well Hello January

And where do I start? January was busy. Busy = blessed so I have no complaints. But man I wish time would slow down a little bit. Days just race by so fast I can hardly catch a breather. Welp since time flies when we're having fun I guess that means we're having fun... and yep. That is true.

I have no px, but Sarah & Jewel spent a week in Florida at one point. The weather wasn't stellar, but they still managed some sunburn (the whole goal of a beach, you know); and at least they didn't see any snow while they were there!

Anyway. Back to the beginning of January. Find the drone -

😍
I love that our grandkids love books.

Pretty sure Sarah had six little persons on there but I can only see five. Bristol maybe was on the other side?

Shared from a friend on a Friday Homeschool Skate. I haven't gone yet...I might make it one of these Fridays...or not..

thank you💗 you know who you are😊

Random Saturday night -

Snow days!

Kiowa & Flint

Skye

Jasper, Skye, Kiowa, Flint

labeled bc in a few years we might not recognize them all bundled up like that!

Ohhh I remember this day. So many bears were killed. It was a right good day for hunting.

And building.

Another good sledding day for Travis & Skye. Must've been on a Wednesday.

There were many accidents that day. Collisions, upsets, etc. Many giggles and general goofiness contributed to the unfortunate events. No injuries were reported so all was well. In this picture, Skye and Travis had just run over Flint ... but I'm pretty sure that Flint was aiming for them...so...

Jasper

Jason

Delightful supper and singing with friends. Skye was so unhappy bc she wanted to hold Rafe. Life's just unfair when you're two.

It's so hard to be patient!

A cow died and had to be buried. It was a sad day. But we do have very very very good neighbors who helped us out so there's that anyway.

I took Grandpa to work one day and he showed me what he does. First he gets a fire started in the woodburning furnace,

and then he cuts boards into whatever lengths his boss, UJerry, tells him to. He keeps busy, that grandpa does. For an old guy (94) he does very well.

One January snow was so light and fluffy that Dad just blew it off the driveway with the leaf blower. Who needs a shovel anyway?

This time the bears were in the zoo. No hunting allowed here!

💕

One day I cleaned up the red shed so kids could play in there on really cold days. It's heated to 40d so feels refreshing but not freezing on the coldest winter days.

💓

Much winter beauty amongst the busy-ness.

TYG Parents' Appreciation Supper. Very blessed evening.

Delicious meal and beautiful HHH singing around the piano.

Thanks again, TYG!

Meanwhile, these three made their way safely to and from the inauguration for President Trump. It was record low temps, so the inauguration was moved inside the Capitol One Arena that only seated 20,000 ppl; since 200,000 ppl had registered for the outdoor event, that meant a LOT of ppl were vying for a few indoor seats at the arena on Inauguration Day. But Dad & I have a classmate who is involved with the Tazewell County Republican Women organization; Diane was able to get the kids on a list for a Saturday evening Republican reception which they thoroughly enjoyed.

She also helped them register to attend the Sunday afternoon rally in the Capitol One Arena which they also thoroughly enjoyed. They even got a picture with President Trump lol.

This arena is where the inauguration was shown on a Jumbotron and President Trump eventually spoke on Monday; but the line for entrance to that event started on Sunday night around 11pm so they passed on that. It was cold! They spent Monday touring Washington DC and enjoyed that in spite of the cold. At least they were moving! They also figured out which route the Presidential motorcade was going to take and were pretty happy to be 15 feet from that.

Meanwhile, life back home continued with an awful cute assistant chef.

And oh my. The red shed traffic was wild this day. There were many accidents,

and the ambulance and hospital staff were kept very busy. Thankfully no serious injuries were sustained.

January 21.
Last 2024 apple.
It was a good season.

💓

And that's about it for the first part of January. Stay tuned... part second to follow soon. Hopefully.
Ha!
