July 2026
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

12-3-13 Damp

We woke up to fog today, and it never really did lift all day long. But inside was bright and sunny with a few extra smilers and gigglers.

Regular school was done in record time so kids could get started on some engineering projects.

The whole time I walked, it was misting. Barely enough to get my glasses a little wet, and yet, enough to collect on these peach tree branches. It felt like I was walking in fog, and - well, I guess I was.

P1370264

In spite of the damp, it wasn’t that cold; and the fresh air felt wonderful.

Part of the tiling project in the north 80.

Mary came over to ride Sunday afternoon. We had a good time as usual.

P1370187

Diamond and Skeet were balking because they didn’t want to head away from the barn after being out for the afternoon.

P1370189

The pond is frozen but the sun melts the edges. We are hoping it melts completely during this warm snap since Thursday some bright minds thought it would be a good idea to throw sticks and rocks and dirt on it which doesn’t make for nice ice. Hopefully the chance of rain Tuesday or Wednesday happens because that will for sure melt it.

The rink is full! The boys put on the kickboards Sunday afternoon, and this afternoon (Monday), Jake and I hooked up all the cords and Jake put in the stakes for the backstop behind the goals. This should eliminate the need to crawl over frozen clods of dirt with a flashlight to find pucks that fly out.

Sunday afternoon fun.

Levi and Ben went to look at the ice on the pond, which was only about 2 inches thick.

P1370206

Duplos have been a big hit lately. Jewel helped Josh make this nice camper.

P1370209

Sunday evening we had Kiesers and Walders over for supper and the evening. We girls had a hilarious game of Scattergories.

[editor’s note: I was not playing but somebody thought I needed to be in the picture. This one’s for you Jen!]

Legos were a hit.

Ping-pong and foosball both got a lot of use.

The parents.

Our game only got crazier when Jake joined (is a vice a kitchen utensil? According to Jake, yes).

Only picture of today. What a cutie!
