March 2024

March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

11-6-10 Lots Going On

After a cool night (27 or so), we were going to fire up the fire, but somehow nobody got it done…which ended up being fine, because it was a beautiful day – upper 50s, I think, and sunny.  Levi and Jesse milked, with Jacob along to help. Dad and Ben went to Morton to look at a 15-passenger van; after careful deliberation which included opinions from the kids, it was unanimously decided to keep our current one until it croaks. On to the next thing – new tires for the recently re-done trailer. Dad and some kids (??don’t remember who) took it up to F & F then came home to work on various projects. Levi worked a few hours at CIT, and Jesse, Jacob, and Ben set a few traps. The girls and I did kitchen work; then all the girls and Joshua got to enjoy the gorgeous day outside while I ironed and did a bit of patching. In for lunch, nap for Josh, and to Morton to pick up the trailer and do payroll. I went along too this time and was glad to find a new pair of walking shoes – my old ones have a huge hole so were unceremoniously dumped into the trash.  THEN – choretime, and I took a walk then did emails. Dad and some kids (??don’t remember who)(I think it’s time for bed) went to Menards to get some more wood for the pigeon coop while Tori got supper on and I read to littles. L & J pulled in just as we were ready to start supper – good timing. After supper we did a whole lot of nothing. Jacob and Ben started a fire, and we just hung out in the family room (except when I played the piano awhile) playing games, reading, talking, and just enjoying being together.  Aahhh – life is good, God is good, and we are so blessed. Showers/baths for all, popcorn and lemonade for some, Bibletime, and beds.

Ready to burn boxes at the south grove.

Painting walls for the chicken coop – it’s chicken wire right now but they need more protection for the coming winter so they keep laying – the girls are laying great right now and I hope it keeps up.  5 dozen today – a record for this ol’ farm.

Progress on the pigeon coop is slow but steady.

That’s all!
