March 2024

March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

11-10-10 Wednesday

Today was a pretty normal November Wednesday, except that it was sunny and upper 60s again, just beautiful. Levi went to PP all day, Jesse worked some for Uncle Randy, and the rest of us just did our same old routine here. Aunt Sarah came for lunch and a walk, with time to read to a crew too which they loved.

Joshua is our biggest book-lover so far at his age (not quite 2)…just has to say something about something on almost every page.

After supper we all went to church; with Joshua’s energy (good nap!) and other issues I didn’t get to focus on the sermon quite like usual. Sometimes I don’t catch any TakeAways – but thankfully that’s not the only reason we go to church. Yes, it’s nice, and we rejoice when we are changed or challenged by God through the words of a speaker, but we are also blessed by the simple act of worshiping God. Thanks, ASK, for your insight on that.  Sometimes it’s the singing, sometimes it’s the prayers, sometimes it’s the TakeAways, and sometimes it’s the fellowship. But other times, it’s just the blessing of being there in obedience to God’s word: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another (Hebrews 10:25).

At any rate, for whatever reason, I had a horrible headache by the end of the service; thankfully Dad was okay with leaving right away which we did. I went straight to bed after quick goodnight kisses (no backrubs) and Dad put the rest of the house to bed.
