March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

11-11-10 Thursday

Very little headache this morning, Praise God! Although I know it’s NOTHING compared to a cancer diagnosis or other major illness, it’s still difficult to find nuggets along the trail when I’m looking through the fuzzy glasses of pain.

Routine day from start to finish. Cloudier than the last several days, but still pretty warm for November. Jacob and Kate went fishing again – keep in mind our creek is pretty small so these fish are considered to be really big and are a huge excitement (don’t you laugh, you MN relatives!). And they’re planning to use them for trapping bait so they don’t need to be any bigger.

Nothing else notable about the day except this fabulous salad that Tori made me for supper (as she does every night, thank you very much Tori!).

Something notable should be pretty obvious. Needless to say, Tori did NOT add that bit of protein to my salad; it obviously fell from our fan/light while we were getting to the table. We all had a good laugh about it – except Dad, who couldn’t believe I was going to eat it (the salad, not the fly) anyway. Why not, I’d like to know!? And furthermore – it was delicious!

Good day!

  1. Beautiful salad! I'm glad it's a fly and not a spider...for some reason that seems worse! -C
