March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

6-5-10 Saturday

Woke up to thunderstorms at 4:00 a.m. Woke up to Jewel coughing at 6:30 a.m. (???) Dad and boys did fencing and other jobs in the rain… came in pretty wet. Girls and I did various kitchen jobs, laundry, and took care of littles…especially a fussy little boy. Why? Teeth, I guess. (??) It was kind of a ‘flat’ day for me – don’t really know why. Spatty children, others with bad attitudes, and of course a fussy baby. Plus I woke up tired – all that combined kind of dragged me down all day. An afternoon nap perked me up quite a bit, thankfully. Dad and boys headed to chase in Morton around 11:00, and didn’t get home until early afternoon. More jobs, then choretime. Dad paid bills; baths/showers for everyone, then Duane and Alissa and girls came for supper. After supper, we all headed outside to enjoy the beautiful evening.

Although Lilly definitely likes her mom the best, she sure gave me a lot of sweet smiles.

Sarah was so excited to hold her – but it didn’t last long.

These 4 little girls had such a good time together.

Look at all these precious smiles!

We saw lots of smiles and heard lots of giggles. We also started to see some pretty awesome lightening and hear some pretty serious rumblings of thunder, so we headed back inside after picking up the yard. I forgot to get a family picture of Duane & Alissa – maybe next time – but we had a really really nice evening with them. We started heading kids to beds right after Duane and Alissa left – hoping they made it back home before the storm hit. We put kids to beds upstairs but moved them downstairs when we heard the Tremont warning sirens going off, so thankful for our cozy (and now clean!) basement.

“O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our maker…” Psalm 95:6.

That’s all.
