Kind of a routine Friday. Aunt Joyce came in the morning and helped with a list of jobs AND did a Pekin run for me. She took Tori and Kate with her for a big Aldi load, and got a few things both at Kroger and Wal-Mart. Back home, I read with littles, worked on Friday jobs, did some editing on Our Family Circus, worked on sewing projects, and managed everyone else. After milking, Levi went to CIT, and Jesse and Jacob worked on mowing. Ben did his share of mowing too when his Friday jobs were done, and Sarah and Jewel helped me with laundry, kitchen work, and their daily and Friday jobs. Does it sound like a busy productive morning? Well, it was. Then after lunch, we went to Uncle Jerry’s to swim for nice long while, and everyone who worked hard got to play hard (except Levi and Dad; they didn’t get to play until evening).
Sarah and Jewel played church for a little while. Their sweet singing was a blessing to my day…especially when they didn’t quite know all the words.
After swimming, I brought everyone home and got 3 settled for naps before going back to Uncle Jerry’s to walk with Grandma, Aunt Joyce, and Aunt Marcia; older kids worked on chores and supper prep. The sky looked somewhat stormy farther north, but at Uncle Jerry’s the sun was still shining, so I stayed until it got darker and I heard thunder. Then all of a sudden I just wanted to be home with the kids, so after helping to close up the pool, I high-tailed it out of there pretty fast. Found chores mostly done at home, and 4 boys watching the storm build. It was a pretty show but thankfully passed north of us. So I sent the boys, Tori and Kate to the bean patch to do some hoeing and weeding. There are a lot of blossoms, so we should have some beans pretty soon.
Dad was home from work a little earlier than usual, so he and I went to Josephine’s visitation while the kids got supper ready. For the record, Levi grilled the hamburgers. Even though he’s not on the supper prep rotation like he used to be, he still helps with the grilling sometimes. I don’t want him to forget how to do it, you know. And he did a good job on the burgers, too.
After supper, Dad and I walked, then Dad helped Jesse finish up some mowing. Then we had a beautiful evening outside: four wheeler rides, wagon rides, swinging, catch, 500, soccer, etc. Just not much variety nor excitement around our acres which is fine with us. The front that came through had cooled it off pretty nice, but as the evening passed it got pretty sticky again. We had all come in for ice cream cones when it started blowing and thundering around again…and it carried on for a long time. I don’t know how much rain we got this time, but it rained hard for awhile. It’s sure good for the garden, but some fields still have big wet spots so that’s not so good. Bibletime then everybody headed for beds…the girls and Ben had a campout in the basement and weren’t a bit bothered by all the lightening and thunder.
And that’s all.
