March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

6-14-10 RAIN RAIN RAIN

“I will bless the Lord, who hath given me counsel…I have set the Lord always before me: because he is at my right hand, I will not be moved. Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope…Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.” Ps. 16:7-11

Counsel – glory – hope – fulness of joy – pleasures for evermore… beautiful words, wonderful words of life. How can anyone reject such promises? We serve such an awesome God who loves us so much…so much that he sent his Son to die for our sins. How great thou art.

Woke up to thunder which was pouring down rain by the time Dad left for work (ONE). Spent the morning doing a piano lesson, phonics with little girls, read to kids awhile, of course laundry, Tori worked on sewing projects, Kate made snack mix squares (all by herself!), Levi and Jesse milked, then Levi went to CIT. Jesse and Jacob worked on a new butterfly exhibit box that turned out really nice. Joshua was happy; mattery eyes, cough, runny nose are done, thankfully! Ben and girls played in basement since outside was humid and very wet. Rain stopped long enough to get laundry out and dry, and I got a walk in with Karol. Clouded up again later in the afternoon and soon was raining cats and dogs again (TWO). After the worst was over, and the children had gone out to enjoy the light warm drizzle and mud, I had some texts from Levi asking if I had heard about the tornado raising and lowering over Tremont… Jesse, Ben, and Andy had watched it for a minute. And sirens were going in Tremont and Morton both. NO I hadn’t heard a siren, and it wasn’t even that windy here; it was just heavy rain and it never once occurred to me to send the kids to the basement! I’m usually pretty quick to send them down just for peace of mind, but I never dreamed it was that severe of weather. Anyway, thankfully nothing touched down anywhere, and the kids had a great time in the rain, and the puddles when the rain ended. They didn’t come in until right before supper; pretty muddy, they took quick showers before supper. After supper Dad and I started out on a walk but turned back when the sky looked ominous AGAIN. And a good thing, too, because, it poured again (THREE)! It’s beginning to feel like the tropics here! From Saturday’s rain to now, I think we’ve had 3 inches or so. Dad likes rain, so we took a short drive to the squall line and enjoyed the storm for a few minutes (well, he did, anyway; I was just along for the ride. I’d prefer to be NOT in the car when it’s pouring rain and windy). Back home, we enjoyed our evening with the kids. Dad read about Queen Esther for Bibletime; our discussion about Queen Vashti dancing led us to the Festival queen tap dancing and we ended up talking about the parade too. Sometimes our Bibletime is like that – we get way off the topic. It’s ok, though; we love our evening talks about Bible and whatever. I love our singing before Dad reads too – it’s my favorite time of the day. After Bibletime, a few baths; then beds.

A few pictures from the day.

Joshua gets so excited when he sees me getting his smoothie ready. He just guzzles it right down.
