March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

6-16-10 SUN

Woke up to a beautiful, non-humid, sunshiney summer day. Nothing special about today, except that

1. We are all blessed with fantastic health. No cancer, strokes, diabetes, heart disease (well, maybe a little of that, but nothing major), etc. Our legs, hands, eyes, ears, mouths…everything…works the way God designed it to.

2. We live on the most beautiful farmstead in the world.

3. We have a roof up above us, a good place to sleep, soft mattresses and pillows, warm snuggly blankets, food on our table, full freezers and cupboards, closets stuffed full of clothes, and shoes on our feet.

4. You gave us your love, Lord, and a fine family.

5. In America we are free to worship God 24/7 HOWEVER we want to.

6. We have countless wonderful friends and a loving church family.

7. MOST IMPORTANTLY: Jesus shed his blood on the cross so we could LIVE FOREVER in heaven with Him!!!!!

PSALM OF PRAISE

Thank ye the Lord! Give thanks to the Lord,

For He is gracious, His mercy It endureth evermore!

Bless ye the Lord, O bless ye the Lord!

My soul, remember His goodness and His gifts bestowed on thee!

His is the pow’r, Almighty is God!

He ruleth wisely, He manifests His favor ev’ry day!

Great is the Lord, yea great is the Lord!

His name is holy, Throughout the world His honor doth abound!

Worship the Lord, O worship the Lord!

With sacred rev’rence Respectfully We speak His holy name!

Sing to the Lord, yes, sing to the Lord!

In joyful chorus, for graciously He hears our song of praise!

(Hymns of Zion #245)

Peaceful routine morning. The only thing new is the project on which I started the girls. I knew once I got it started they would take off with it, and they are. We are typing up Our Family Circus, the story of Grandpa and Grandma’s life starting back when they got married. We love to read it – Grandma is such a good writer and tells so many stories about their family growing up. Our family story isn’t nearly as exciting or funny as theirs is…so many many funny things happened to them. Kate loves to type because then she gets to read it. We’ll see how far we get before they lose interest in it…

Boys milked twice; Levi went to CIT in between. Jesse worked on farm stuff – one job being to check the nasty steer that is slated to be butchered next week. He ripped his horn off or something and yesterday it bled pretty ugly, attracting flies which lay eggs which means maggots can literally eat him alive. This happened before with a younger tamer steer and it is SO GROSS. This guy is too heavy and mean to doctor, so he’s going to the locker a couple weeks early. Hopefully the maggots don’t get to his brain before we get him to Eureka. Although Jesse’s convinced he has no brain anyway, for that matter.

After lunch we worked on the melon patch. Watermelon…

We did this on the recommendation of some experienced friends, but we really had no idea what we were doing. Time will tell if our work was worth anything. And ….notice the beautiful sky and clouds.

Don’t ask me names of these because I just don’t know very many. I sure like them anyway, though.

Chores, I went to Karol’s to walk, supper prep; just a calm routine day. After supper we did Bibletime at the table; there was no church because Josephine Schaefer died yesterday. Hallelujah For the Cross; she is Beyond the Sunset.

Dad and I walked while kids did dishes, then everyone was outside for a fun evening of baseball – 500, catch, then a game with all 10 of us. I gave wagon rides and Dad did four wheeler rides too. It was a beautiful night.

Baths, beds.
