March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

6-19-10 Purified, Peculiar, and Zealous

“For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.” Titus 2:11-14

1. Salvation is for ALL MEN, and it is brought by grace.

2. God wants us to deny ungodliness and worldly lusts.

3. God wants us to live soberly, righteously, and godly.

4. God wants us to look for that blessed hope and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ.

5. Jesus Christ gave himself for us, that he might redeem us (set us free) from all iniquity and purify unto himself a peculiar people.

6. Jesus Christ wants us to be purified and peculiar.

7. Jesus Christ wants us to be zealous of good works.

In summary, Jesus Christ died to set us free from our sins. By HIM ONLY are we saved. BUT that word AND follows “he might redeem us from all iniquity,” which means that Jesus died to redeem us AND purify us. “Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.” James 2:17. The redeemed will be purified, peculiar, and zealous of good works. We will not waste our life here being a bench warmer, no way; we will be right there in the game, working for God, and He will show us what He wants us to do for Him if only we ask.

Here’s a favorite Kaiser fast food breakfast (or lunch)(or snack): pizza toasties.

Girls and I did kitchen work, including a bucket of apples that were knocked down during the storm last night. We did a mini-factory, which produced 8 quarts of sauce plus lots of fresh that never made it to the freezer. Yum! Dad and the boys had some CIT things to do, errands in Morton, wood to cut, plants to powder (Japanese beetles are starting already), other things I don’t know, and Jesse finally put some sides on this trailer. He does a good job.

After lunch we went swimming for awhile…it was HOT again. Got my walk in with Aunt Marcia, in spite of all the obstacles in the pool, and came home ready to dig into chores, showers, supper prep, and house cleanup. Dad, Jesse, and a few kids went to Morton to get Papa Murphy’s pizza for Tori’s birthday supper, and then Dad and I had a spontaneous meeting with Jesse to straighten out a few driving issues. I think we’re making progress.

Grandpa and Grandma Kaiser came for supper, and then we sang to Tori and enjoyed her delicious Malt Shoppe Desert.

Nobody wanted to go outside for the evening; it was “too hot.” I was itching to go out, because it looked so pretty, when a giant bird or something zoomed over the house…sounded really close. All of a sudden everybody wanted to go outside, and what do you know, it wasn’t so hot out after all. Imagine that. We watched our neighbor circle our farm several times in his ultra-light before he landed on our road up by the north eighty.

Wouldn’t you know I snapped this picture RIGHT when he was behind the telephone wire.

Did I mention there was another beautiful sunset?

This is a more accurate picture. Isn’t that GORGEOUS?

Grandma and Tori found a few beans!

Inside, Grandma, Tori, and I experimented with photographing pictures in Grandma’s scrapbook so we could put pictures on Our Family Circus. Our initial attempts were promising, and hopefully with daylight we’ll have a little improvement.

After Grandpa and Grandma left, it was time for beds and evening chores; and here are two of my very nice boys sharing Tori’s new mp3 player earphones.

That’s all; and here's a recipe to remember:

Malt Shoppe Dessert

Ingredients:

2 1/2 cups crushed chocolate sandwich cookies

1/4 cup melted butter

1 quart vanilla ice cream, softened

1/4 cup milk, divided

1 12-oz. carton malted milk balls

6 tablespoons marshmallow creme

6 tablespoons powdered chocolate milk drink mix (we use Nestle Quik)

1 16-oz. carton frozen whipped topping, thawed

Mix cookies and melted butter; press into 9x13 pan. Blend ice cream, 2 tablespoons milk, and 1/2 cup crushed malted milk balls. Pour over crust. Freeze. Beat marshmallow creme, 2 tablespoons milk, and chocolate milk drink mix. Add cool whip; beat until stiff. Spread over ice cream; sprinkle remaining crushed malted milk balls over top. Freeze.
