March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

6-15-10 Tuesday

Another slow-ish day, but slow doesn’t mean we had nothing to do. It just means that there’s no frantic pace to get done what we have to do. The lists never end, but a slower pace is very nice at least. Woke up again to gray, but that’s ok. The Weatherman knows just what we need. “Oh how lovely is the morning, When it is begun with God. Joy and faith our hearts adorning, As behooves a child of God. Waking after night so fair, In the Maker’s gentle care. Rising without grief or sorrow To a new and joyful morrow!” (Zion’s Harp #166). Praise God for another beautiful day!

Sleepyheads.

Inside morning because outside was pretty soggy.

Same kind of day as yesterday – sewing projects, laundry, lots of ironing, phonics, piano lesson (Ben this time), blah blah blah. L & J milked, then L to CIT. After lunch I took Jesse to Uncle Randy’s, and Levi went there from CIT to help sort hogs. When I got home from Uncle Randy’s with Sarah, Jewel, and Josh, everybody loaded up and we did a quick but fun trip to Uncle Jerry’s to swim. Home again, nap for Joshua, snack and chores for kids, and I grabbed a walk before the drizzle started. And it didn’t last long [*grin!*], and then we had supper and a wonderful evening outside. The sunshine was so beautiful after so much gray.

Ben’s favorite activity.

Littles played some ball too, with Dad and I, then all inside for Bibletime and beds.

“Thank you Lord, for your blessings on me.”
