March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

Winter Storm

So yesterday was routine school, and I thought I'd log Josh's school desk for the record. And really, our house is one of the warmest houses I know of. He just really likes his new hat 😊

School done, and yesterday was spent getting ready for the Winter Storm that was predicted. Extra hay, extra corn, extra wood, clean up buildings, shut doors up, etc. It was oddly warm, in the mid-40s. Jewel & I even washed the van which was a mess.

And then last night indeed we had a Winter Storm. Early this morning, Ben was out scooping the driveway because he was called off work. Dad worked from home today, as did many others. A few kids went in though, and thankfully everyone was safe.

We have a lot of wind here which makes for 3 foot drifts and bare lawn. Jesse shared this picture of a protected spot at his place; this is probably pretty accurate for here also.

Why Young Men Should Go To Work Every Day

(Ben actually had a productive day; among other things he repaired his drone)

Dad and Josh did some scouting after lunch.

Then there was more snow to scoop at chore time. Too much fun for color TV, as U. Jerry says.

In days gone by, that drift in front of the barn would have a cave or tunnel built into it. Not anymore!

But these three did go sledding for awhile - and Josh even landed in the creek! Some things never change - years ago, when Grandpa and Grandma still lived here, Marcy did the same thing! She was younger than Josh is though, maybe 7 or 8? Can't remember.

He seems to have survived fine.

Some things don't change, some things do. Another change - I walked on my elliptical. Back in the day I wouldn't hesitate to do a snow walk outside, but today's snow blowing completely horizontal cured that temptation. I was completely content to stay snug inside. And it should be pretty clear what I did all day - blogged. Got caught up and might even get a few drafts cleared out of the draft folder tonight yet. Or not. Yesterday and Monday were super busy days, but today was a slower lazy pace which is nice every once in a while, you know? And then there just might be time to blog...
So that's it for the storm. More blowing predicted for tonight, and we'll see what tomorrow brings.
Stay warm and safe y'all, and praise God for the wonderful home He has given you!

Praise ye the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power.Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness.Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp.Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs.Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals.Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.
