We knew it was coming, and certainly it came. Our road this morning was deceptively clear; with north winds there was no snow blowing on our north/south road. But oh, when we got to Allentown Road, which is an east/west road, we were glad we didn’t have to hurry. At some spots there was very little visibility due to blowing snow; also the blowing snow made for a very snow-packed road. So we took our time and did fine.
After missing two Sundays it was really good to be in church again; singing was beautiful, fellowship was precious, and the morning sermon was encouraging. One TakeAway was from Job (forget the reference), speaking about God’s provision: Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him. It’s a favorite verse of mine, reminding me that even when it’s difficult to trust because things seem to be bad, yet will I trust. Oftentimes my faith is weak. Lord, help thou my unbelief. We were all so glad when Steve announced at noon that the Christmas Program would be our afternoon service so we wouldn’t have to come back later when roads would be worse. Oh how glad I was that we wouldn’t have to drive them in the dark. The program was very nice; all the classes did so good – especially the one class that had only five students. They did great! After the program we each got a huge orange, just like usual, and headed home in a blizzard. Allentown Road was even worse than this morning; Oh how glad we were to be going home to stay. And here’s my two cents on the matter (as spokesmom for our family): we would love for this schedule to become the custom for the program. Evening program Sundays are so hectic and difficult, because of little ones’ naps and the several changes of clothes (church to chore to supper to church again) that are necessary to get ‘er all done. Then there must be an early supper so we can get ready to go back to church; plus, come Monday morning, typically the house is pretty trashed, and we have to take a bit of time to get it back in order. Which we are perfectly capable of doing and have been doing for about 14 years or so, but if we could change to afternoon programs instead of evening programs, we would be very very glad.
But I digress.
I’ll just step off my soapbox now and finish this up. My eyelids are getting heavy so that means it’s bedtime.
Home from church, we did talktime, choretime, supper prep, supper, and an evening of ping pong in the basement.
And…
Now it’s bedtime; good night!
Two votes for afternoon programs! We don't have any in Sunday School yet...but my mind went through the same gymnastics of running home, running back, etc...I know there are a few drawbacks for some (Sing-it-Yourself Messiah, and YG goes to Bloomfield that weekend)...but I am sure we could work something out!

We almost did the same thing here, but for some reason they decided against it...so we treked back out in the cold and snow and ice for a crazy evening. We also have snacks afterwards, so we get home about 9:45...with short naps and missed naps...Monday is a "pretty" day! NOT.
ReplyDeleteThere are several voting to make the change...we'll see what future years bring. -C
