March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

10-7-10 Busy And Good

That about sums it up. Boys milked twice, studied and worked here in between, and we did school routine. When Tori’s school was done, she did mundane things like cooking ground beef to freeze, doing some computer work for me, putting the dehydrator away for the year, cutting up watermelon, making bars, doing grocery inventory, etc.  Jacob took the wax down to the bees for them to clean up after lunch; bee work for the year is almost done. After lunch I played with Joshua outside for awhile before putting him down for a nap – I finally scheduled myself to be outside from 1:30 – 2:00 so it’s much more likely to happen than if I don’t purpose to do it. Likewise since I’m purposed to read from 4:00 – 5:00 it’s more likely to happen also, which it did. I hope I can stick to that schedule because those ‘appointments’ are just as important if not more than the tutoring meetings of the morning. I walked solo after putting Joshua to bed, and then did my hour of computer time – emails, news for Connection, Harvest of Gold – until 4:00 when I read to the kids. We’ll see how I do going forward…

Jacob made a great spaghetti supper, with only a little help from me at the end; it was delicious! Supper and a walk with Dad while kids played outside and boys worked on the broken tail gate on the dump truck; then all in for Bibletime and beds.

O give thanks unto the Lord; call upon his name: make known his deeds among the people. Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him: talk ye of all his wondrous works. Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the Lord. Psalm 105: 1-3

It was a beautiful morning!

Precious little guy is infatuated with combines. Good thing we have a lot of toy ones around – this one dates back to Levi, I think; despite missing a cab it gets the job done! He is so fun to watch – sound effects and all.

Ummm, I don’t think so.  That is a solid hunk of metal which could smash a toe pretty good…he’s only allowed to harvest the floor and couch.

Lunchtime dessert of chocolate ice cream was thoroughly enjoyed.

I don’t know which is funnier – the goofy baby or the goofy boy!  [smile]

That’s it; good-night.
