Today the Sunday School classes switched to their new classrooms with their new teachers; Jewel went for the first time and did great! She told Aunt Sarah her teacher’s name: “Sarah.”
“What is her last name?”
“Bloomington!” (Her teacher is Sarah Lennington. Pretty sweet.) Sarah has Marsha Koch, Ben has Aunt Sarah, Kate has Chad Keever and Steven Beutel, and Jacob has Dad and Dave Sauder. Everybody seemed to adjust just fine to all the new.
Upstairs, we learned that Saul means destroyer, and Paul means worker. Quite interesting. Also Dan read in II Chronicles where Hezekiah proclaims the passover; the people “kept the feast of unleavened bread seven days with great gladness…singing with loud instruments unto the Lord.” What blessings abound to those who live in obedience to God.
Snacks after church. Popcorn is always so fun for babies…and fun for us (baby’s fan club) to watch the baby.
Levi and Benjamin went fishing – amazingly the humidity was quite a bit less making it much more pleasant outside. Josh took a nice nap, and the rest of us relaxed until choretime. Dad and Tori worked on her mp3 player awhile, and then Dad and I went on a walk. Aunt Sarah came for supper, and we had started to get ready to go to the monthly hymn sing when Dad had sudden painful stomach cramps. He retreated to our room to lay down, and we carried on without our best Dad. It kind of cancelled our singing plans, but we enjoyed a beautiful evening outside instead. Before supper somebody took this picture of a Monarch just ready to emerge (“hatch”) from its chrysalis.
During dishes, great excitement abounded when it looked like this:
You can’t tell much in this picture, but its wings were small, stunted-looking, and wet, and its body was huge and fat. Over time its wings dried off, and the fluid in its body was pumped into its wings. It’s a pretty amazing process to watch.
I can hardly stand to publish a photograph that’s fuzzy, but this is just so typical of how these three spend their free time…and they think they’re on summer break from school? Not hardly!
Outside for the evening – everyone but Dad, that is, who was in bed feeling awful.
After awhile Dad joined us…
Jacob brought his newly-hatched butterfly out to set it free. It didn’t fly right away (too wet) so he put it on a tree branch. I’m glad he let it go; we already have 3 Monarchs in different collections, and no one really needs this one.
Cool enough for a fire in the firepit!
RARE treat – cheese curls. Any guesses as to why???
“Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these….But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you…Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” (Luke 12: 27, 31, 32) No, these are not lilies, but the principle’s the same…
Cherry tomatoes (grape?) are producing quite well. Tomato lovers (alas, not me) are giving them rave reviews.
Hearts of Gold Cantaloupe…coming right along…soon…..
That’s it.
The round tomatoes are cherry and the oblong ones are grape. I stuck the tag in beside mine so I'd be sure to know which was which. I think the cherry ones are sweeter and the grape ones taste more like a tomato. You have a grape tomato plant, don't you? I can't remember which ones you ended up with.
