March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

7-24-10 Faline

Dad went to work early and got alot done. The boys started in on a job list that Dad left them, and the girls and I worked on kitchen projects.

Little Faline is a popular guest here - she seems to really like the pheasant pen. She is so cute!

Mike and Ivy stopped to borrow tubes for tubing the Mackinaw; they got to meet Faline. Joshua was pretty impressed with Timothy, too. He tried to take him right out of my arms…pretty cute.

Sarah was pleased as punch to get to hold Timothy, and Blessing seemed pretty excited to pet Faline.

When Dad got home, he and I went to Verizon Wireless in Pekin to sign up for a wireless plan. Back home again, Dad worked on installing it while Joshua napped; the rest of us went to the creek for a while.

Home to chores; our first attempt at fruit pizza turned out beautifully…

And it was DELICIOUS!!!! Everyone loved it; the vote was unanimous to make it again.

Fruit Pizza (we did 2 recipes)

Crust:

1/2 cup butter, softened

3/4 cup sugar

1/8 teaspoon salt

1 egg

1 teaspoon cream of tartar

1 1/3 cups flour

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

Cream the shortening and sugar; add remaining ingredients. Press into a greased 11x14 inch pan. Bake for 10 minutes at 350 degrees.

Mix together 8 ounces softened cream cheese, 8 ounces whipped topping, and 1/2 cup powdered sugar; spread over cooled crust (actually we ran out of powdered sugar so used about 2 Tablespoons per recipe instead, and it was fine).

Arrange fresh fruit of choice.

Sauce:

2 Tablespoons cornstarch

1/2 cup sugar

1 teaspoon lemon juice

1 cup fruit juice (we used orange juice)

Combine ingredients to make sauce; cook until thick. Cool; pour over pizza.

After supper, Dad, Levi, Jesse, and I went to a very nice evening of testimonies at church; the rest stayed here for a calm evening. Some were in bed when we got home; those that weren’t soon were.

That’s all.
