September 2025
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

7-22-10 Another Creek Day

100_1167

Early up to a beautiful sunrise, and replacement chicks were soon here looking fine (Dean picked them up from Peoria for us and dropped them off). Dad went to Uncle Jerry’s early; boys didn’t milk, so Levi went to CIT early. Jesse worked here on fencing, stakes, etc. until Levi picked him up to move some straw from Uhlman’s to the dairy. The rest of us picked the sweet corn patch clean (about a bushel for a few meals yet), picked tomatoes, cleaned the sweet corn, made bread (Tori), cooked up a big batch of ground beef for lasagnas, and got ready for another afternoon at the creek. Aunt Sarah joined us again, and after Levi and Jesse were done with straw, they came down to the creek for awhile too – quite a treat to have all 9 kids swimming together. I think it was the second time for the summer maybe? Anyway, they all had fun - it was very very hot but I didn’t realize it until we got back home in the a.c. and went back outside again. It’s interesting to me how it can seem so comfortable when we’re wet, but just blazing hot when we’re dry. Anyway, home to chores, supper prep, supper, and then everyone picked up apples from the orchard and weeded potatoes. Dad and I walked in the pasture to check out the new calf – saw all 6 and they are SO CUTE. I’m so glad for the opportunity to have them and watch them; thank You Lord for this nugget. You have blessed us SO richly. Home to Bibletime and beds.

Some pictures...another pet.
