March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

5-4-10 “Tuesday is Drew’s Day”

Quote by Jewel, age 4.

We have so many pictures of Drew; here’s one of him with his Mommy. Everybody gets excited when Jolynn drives in.

Clearly he loves his Mommy best, but he likes Tori pretty good too. He’s such a snuggly little Drewsie Bear.

Today I think Sarah was (again) his chief entertainer. She LOVES to play with him...

…and feed him his bottle. She really is a great help, because then Tori can work on other projects for me.

Tori cut off and hemmed the curtains for Joshua’s room; she did a GREAT job. All I did was make the mark, and she did the rest. I appreciate that SO much. She also worked on a new skirt for Kate…little by little she’s getting it done. As always, I have every intention of helping her, but after I looked at math with Jacob, helped Kate clean up the kitchen, did the little girls’ hair, fed Joshua and rocked him to sleep, and took care of half a dozen other little interruptions that came up, I took Sarah and Jewel with me to pick up our co-op order at Todd and Val’s. Whew. For having a slow day, there always seemed to be something to do. Levi and Jesse milked in the morning, then Levi took Jesse to Uncle Randy’s to clean out the finishers. (I think that’s what he called them.) Levi wasn’t feeling very well when he got home, but he took some tylenol, had something to eat, and then started in on geometry. Only two weeks to go. He got about half done but had to quit to do something with the cattle with Jacob. By 1:00 he was heading to Precision. I was walking with Karol by then, and the rest of the crew were playing in the backyard or doing stakes. Tori rocked Drew to sleep while I was walking, and he slept until 4:00! After my walk I read outside to a bunch of littles while Jacob and Tori worked on stakes. Then I pushed Joshua and Jewel in the swings for awhile and just enjoyed the beautiful day with them. I rocked Joshua before his nap, but, again, he never relaxed enough to fall asleep in my arms; I put him in bed awake and he settled right down. I had a little time to check email, make some phone calls, read a little (a friend loaned me a book on making cheese…she says it’s SO EASY. ??? From the few pages I read, easy isn’t a word I’d pick to describe that craft.), and write a little. Oh, and also I finally got to see the new baby kittens…I even got to hold one. They’re pretty cute but still too young to move out of the haymow, so Tori took them back up after I took a few pictures.

Ice cream cones for snacktime. Choretime. Supper prep. Supper…with both boys home, but Levi was sick asleep. Then we all went outside for a lovely evening. Dad checked the bees with Jacob and Ben and also did some jigging on stake equipment with Jacob. The rest of us played basketball and played with little ones; after I brought Joshua in for a bath, Dad did some football with the rest. From what I heard it was a fun time!

We came in for baths, Bibletime, and beds.
