Blink. That’s how fast the day went…which means it was a good one, but oh so very busy.
The girls started out with me in the kitchen with a list of projects. Joshua liked watching from the sassy seat.
Little girls helped some and played some.
Dad, Jacob, and Ben took the 265 to CIT to mow (successfully)(NO PROBLEMS), clean up, and get wood for stakes, while Levi and Jesse got the water pump going in the back pasture; then Levi got the grinder from Marty’s.
Next project was grinding feed.
All children were banned to the backyard for safety reasons…Sarah wanted help planting that branch in her landscape. (!)
After lunch, the little girls helped me plant zinnias while the older girls helped Grandpa plant his yellow beans.
Jacob did some roto-tilling before he went with Dad and Jesse to get a new mower from Uncle Randy’s. This is not a good thing to see…thankfully he was done with the bean patch when the tiller clunked.
Levi returned the mixer then looked for mushrooms. Here’s the first (and only?) of the season (that’s Tori’s hand, not Levi’s).
Last year this would have been a peon…Jesse found a dozen or more, and this is similar to one of the smallest he found. But last year was very very wet, and this year has been anything but, so this may be it for the year. I don’t think they’re done looking though.
Meanwhile, the girls and I, with Grandpa’s help, planted our beans.
Ben hauled a branch to the South Grove burn pile for Dad…
…and then helped us in the garden for a little bit, but he was more interested in the leftover seeds for his garden.
Ummm…actually I helped very little; I had Joshua in my lap and was feeding him his banana and hamburger, managing the girls, taking pictures, and settling squabbles (practicing my multi-tasking skills) (something they should teach in Mom School).
After that Joshua was pretty busy being cute…brrmm, brrmm, he says. He’s all boy, he is.
Cleaning out the sled room in the barn was the next project. Fun fun!
Always fun to play in the corn.
Levi and Ben took another branch to the South Grove and then went on to the creek to get some big fish that Levi had seen.
They returned soon after the new mower got here. High excitement, let me tell you.
Sweet helper...Jesse’s tool set is one of his favorite toys, much to Jesse’s dismay.
Dad reminded me that we had tomato plants to plant!
And Joshua was busy being cute…and SO SO dirty!
While we were planting tomatoes, Dad and the boys were working on the fence along the lane across the road.
Kate and Tori went over there after tomatoes were done (I put Josh down for a nap and read to the girls), and Tori took the camera. I think this pic is so funny because, you can barely tell, but BOTH Jacob and Kate are on the 4 wheeler; just what do you suppose they are looking for???
Removing an old end post.
The new post.
Ben.
Jacob. (???)
Tightening the wire on the dead man (the dead man is a log horizontally buried in the ground which anchors the fence).
The new wire.
Stretching the fence tight.
Pounding the new stakes in with the stakedriver.
Jacob counts as Levi pounds; Jesse has just tied the fence to the stake.
And that was the stopping point for the day. Chores, supper, and then a lovely deer drive to the Mackinaw River Bottom area where we saw not only a half dozen deer but also a raccoon running across the field. Pretty exciting stuff. We ended up at a little ice cream place in Mackinaw (I can’t remember the name of it) before heading home to showers and baths and beds for all.
Another very busy, very beautiful, and very blessed day; thank you Lord for safety for all.
Sounds like a great day. Makes me miss our River Bottom drives and ice-cream at J&J... sniff... But we have a DQ here so we will survive =)
