March 2024

March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

5-17-10 Recovery

Boys milked. Dad went to work. We did laundry and made chicken pot pie (our favorite, remember?) for supper.  Levi and I did geometry. We did lots of laundry. We unpacked and put things away. I did a bit of patching and altering. And did laundry. And did a piano lesson with Jacob. Did I mention we did laundry?  And did I mention it was raining most of the day?  Which wasn’t all bad, because the garden is turning into a weedy mess, and if it hadn’t rained I would have felt pretty pressured to be out there working instead of inside getting things back to normal. But it was some bad, because the little girls especially were kind of spatty all day.  They went out some, but they argued outside too. Here’s a classic spat starter:

Jewel:  “I’m going to do 4 puzzles because I’m 4.”

Sarah:  “No, you’re not. You’re 3.”

And they’re off…and it goes on and on until Sarah has earned herself another job. I have little patience for such pettiness, even from an almost-6 year old.

Aah well, some days are like that.

In my spare time (between doing laundry, geometry, settling spats, changing and rocking Joshua, managing supper, etc.), I sorted and edited weekend pictures with lots of help and advice from whoever was in the house. It’s so fun to do – as we sort/edit we remember and re-live all the fun we had.

I skipped a walk – never really stopped raining for very long.

Can’t remember much about the day, so it must have been pretty calm…no broken pipes or toilets, no mowing, no injuries, no appointments or errands.  My favorite kind of day.

Boys milked again and joined us before supper was over. We did Bible at the table so I could put littles to bed when they needed it and older kids could stay up.

That’s it.
