March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

4-30-10 Friday

“Hi Mom!”

Precious smiles.

Today was pretty routine for a Friday. Everyone worked diligently on Friday jobs so they could get outside to the beautiful day. Levi and Jesse milked early, then Levi came home to do geometry and Jesse mowed. Jacob, Kate, and I went to Fligingers to pick up the other mower, then Jacob mowed with it. After 2 trips to Fligingers and a few hundred $, it worked really good for him. Thankfully. This mower is headed for CIT where it will stay all summer; Jacob will do all the mowing there.

“Kaitlyn, WHAT are you doing?”

“Dusting!”

How silly of me; I should have known.

Grandpa took Jacob to roto-till Aunt Marcia’s garden, and then they worked on some tiling across the road.

I washed a few windows, did a little laundry, helped with geometry, and managed everyone else as they did their lists. Did I mention settle squabbles? Sometimes (full moon?) I do a lot of referee-ing, and sometimes I do a little. But I’m always doing SOME. Today seemed like more than usual. I read to 4, then while Joshua napped I took a walk…down to Dad’s beehives. Here they are:

Jesse worked on stakes, and Levi went to Precision for the afternoon. When he got home, I worked on geometry with him again …only 9 lessons + 2 tests to go!!!!! Got that done right as Dad got home, then he and I took Jacob out for supper for his twelfth birthday. We started with payroll at Uncle Jerry’s shop, and then went to Farm & Fleet for a few supplies and Jacob’s birthday gift, a pair of nice binoculars. We were under a tornado watch with near 100% chance of rain…we got the rain while we were eating at Culver’s. Zipped over to Wal-Mart next, then were home by 9:00. Caught up with everyone, evening chores, and then beds for all.

  1. Uncle Tim,

Sorry I haven't sent in the time clock punches for awhile. I went on strike after it froze the computer 4 times in a row one day when trying to send them. I will get back to it if it helps you!!
