March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

4-8-10 Busy

Today was busy.  Anything but routine.  A good day, considering the fever/coughs we have going on, but too busy…I’m glad most days aren’t like this.  I sat down to put pics on the computer and found that my dear photographers have taken a HUNDRED pictures today.  (????)

Dad left early to go to Uncle Jerry’s shop, and he was home in time to pick up Jesse and take him to Uncle Randy’s before he went to work.  Levi worked on geometry all morning.  The rest of us dug into our morning spring cleaning project… the bookshelves (finally).  It’s a great feeling to have that done! The polished shelves look so nice, and the books are quite orderly again.  I know the orderly books won’t last long, but at least the dust and cobwebs won’t be back soon.

We were almost done when Grandma Kaiser came to babysit because Levi had to run to Morton for a routine bloodtest (protime) and I was taking Tori to Dr. DeMonte and doing errands in Pekin.  Grandma and the 2 little girls finished peeling potatoes before they read books.

After the ortho appointment, we hit Sears to return something, the post office to return the stake sharpener blades for sharpening, the Redwing shoestore (can’t remember the name of it) for boot oil, and Aldi.  And it was a big Aldi… the picture of the back stack didn’t turn out, so this is only half…

We were still home by 12:30 when Grandma had to leave; Levi left for Precision soon after that.  SOOO…after the mountains of groceries were put away AND the rest of the books were back on the shelves, THEN I read to Sarah and Jewel for awhile and took a catnap.  Much refreshed, I grabbed a short solo walk and came home to study geometry (only 4 weeks to go), plan school assignments for next week, look at kids’ schoolwork, and direct the rest of the crew in their various jobs. Sent Ben, Sarah, and Jewel outside for some fresh air (50 degrees or so…pretty cool)…they were ready to come back in when the timer rang.

Kate did a great job making spaghetti for supper, and Aunt Sarah helped finish it up while I did geometry with Levi. Aunt Sarah has many fans here…

We had yellow cake with chocolate icing (Aunt Sarah’s favorite) for her birthday (which is tomorrow).

Sarah was cold right after supper and soon fell asleep in spite of the rowdy k.p. crew.

After I finished geometry, I put Sarah to bed, gave Jewel and Joshua baths, and then relaxed during a very blessed Bibletime.

Then beds.
