March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

4-12-10 Monday

Jewel woke up perky this morning and has been pretty perky all day, thankfully.  Sarah, on the other hand, is still suffering from a sore throat which of course is accompanied by great sadness,.. Joshua’s nose is still pretty nasty but he was still a pretty happy boy for the most part. Levi and Jesse milked, and right after breakfast, I took the three littlest with me to do a run to the bank and Walmart. While we were gone, the middle 4 were doing school and other tasks I’d left for them.  I put Joshua down for a nap when we got home, and started working on the laundry room cupboards.  When Tori finished making bread, she joined me, and we got much accomplished in a short time.  We were almost done, took a break for lunch outside on a beautiful day, and Tori and Kate finished up while Jacob and Ben did k.p. and I took a solo walk.  Jesse finished his math and took Joshua for awhile, and little girls just enjoyed the sandbox and outside.  The laundry room cupboards look so nice now, inside and out…only the bathroom to go then we’ll start on the kitchen or the basement storage room; I haven’t decided which yet.  We’re getting closer to being done, and I think we’ll all be glad.  It’s good to be doing it, but it’ll be better to have it done.  So…after I walked, I looked at geometry with Levi – he’s doing so good.  Then I pushed Jewel and Joshua on the swings (Sarah fell asleep) while I took laundry down and folded it.  It smells so good… the other crew were out hunting mice, but the report I got was that Rascal got it.  Oh well. Next thing I knew, Jewel wanted to go with the big kids (minus Levi and Jesse who milked) to the creek to make a dam, so I had some solo time with Joshua which I thoroughly enjoyed on a big swing.  After I put him down for a nap, Sarah and I had a little solo time while she read to me on the swing. THEN I tackled the ominous task of installing Windows Live Writer onto the laptop…which was another successful attempt.  And now I’m writing this ON the laptop, OUTSIDE in my comfy lawnchair, WITH Kate reading over my shoulder.  What fun! Lovey’s kittens have been uncovered at last, and one of my photographers is getting some pictures for the little ones who aren’t allowed in the haymow without Daddy…

Chores, early supper outside without Dad who had a Signs For Life meeting after work and Levi and Jesse who were milking.  We were almost done when Dad picked me up in a hurry to go to East Peoria to buy a car, finally. It’s really nice…picture to come tomorrow.

We got home around 8:00; the boys were home by then too.  Levi’s toe is noteworthy.  He’s limping quite a bit, but since Dad has had broken toes before, we’ve learned there’s nothing medically to be done; he’s taking tylenol for pain as needed and in a few days it’ll be better.

Baths and Bibletime and beds.
