March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

4-20-10 Drew’s Day Tuesday

Boys milked; nothing abnormal there. Todd Stuber came again and did many repairs for us…he does such a good job. He replaced the family room light – had to break the old one to get it out – and installed an overhead fan light in our bedroom. We also had Drew today.

Drew and Joshua got reacquainted (dates on these pics is wrong).

Kate fell off her chair to the delight of a very amused audience.

Some of Drew’s fan club.

We had an early morning phone call from a stake customer requesting 48 bundles by Friday, so that was the main focus of the day. Jacob and Kate worked on them much of the morning after their school was done. I did school with Sarah and Jewel, worked on laundry, and helped watch babies while Tori made strawberry pies again. Dad came home for lunch and to look at a few things with Todd, including the picture window which we are planning to replace. Levi and Jesse got home from milking right at noon, right when everyone else was in the house getting lunch to take back outside. In the middle of all that chaos, Hicksgas came to check on a gas smell (from heat expansion which escapes from a release valve) and then to refill the tank which was at less than 5%. Whew, it was a zoo for awhile there. Hicksgas left, Dad returned to work, Jesse disappeared to study (uhhh, kind of. He fell asleep during his lecture and had a nice long nap first.), Levi went to Precision, and I took a nice peaceful walk with Karol. The rest of the afternoon was much calmer then. Drew napped, children played outside, and I checked emails, met with kids to go over their schoolwork, read to Ben, Sarah, and Jewel, and caught up on some journaling.

The white rock pile was the attraction today.

When Jesse finally finished his nap, I mean math, he helped with stakes…they really flew then.

Choretime, Jolynn got Drew, and Levi joined the stake crew when he got home from Precision. I think they had 24 shorts done by suppertime.

Supper was kind of another wild affair, because Dad was late getting home so I fed the kids early. But they couldn’t eat inside because the table was still extended (with no leaves) so Dad could inspect Todd’s work before HE pushed it back together. I wasn’t about to do it, because I was the one who was pushing it together when it broke the first time. The littles ended up coming back inside because it got pretty cool outside, and I sent them down the basement to eat. The boys and Kate stayed outside, and when Dad got home and pushed the table back together, everyone came back to the table with their spaghetti and we all had pie there. Whew, what a day.

The oldest 6 went back outside after supper to work on stakes again, and they got 12 long bundles done…a total of almost 1000 stakes today! Dad and I did dishes with the little ones, then Dad went outside to oversee stake production. I was ready to head outside to join the fun when Joshua was brought to me with another overflow…time for a bigger diaper, I think. I bathed Joshua, Sarah and Jewel came back in soon then, and after they were all in pjs we watched some of our home videos until the rest of the crew came in for Bibletime and beds. Is it any wonder I was tired?
