March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

1-10-10 More Sunday

I so enjoyed being in church today; although I've been able to listen over the phone when I'm home with sick children, I miss the fellowship and the singing. Wow, the singing is just beautiful...and heaven will be indescribably better. It was good to be there. Chuck had the morning sermon...it was good to be reminded that although satan wants to make serving God look difficult, it really isn't. His commandments are not grievous. In the afternoon message, Steve spoke of Jesus praying all night before he chose his 12 disciples (Luke 6). I've never thought about that before...if he was God, why did he need to pray all night? Steve pointed out that Jesus was flesh; as men and women it takes effort to discern the will of God. He also referenced back to the morning where we heard about the persistence of the woman who came to the unjust judge. Effort... persistence... those are action words. As if that wasn't enough to ponder, Dan finished up in the afternoon and focused briefly on how Jesus was so watched and criticized...Jesus was flesh, he knows what we go through, he will listen, he will answer. Whew, what a challenging day, yet so encouraging at the same time. Truly, God is good.

After church we had a routine afternoon except Dad had to check out the chimney because the woodburner was smoking really odd this morning. He let the fire go out all day, hoping to fix the problem this afternoon and fire it up again for the evening and overnight. Didn't work that way...he found a creasote build-up that he could not fix. So the woodburner is on hold for the week until he can look further into it on Saturday.

Children did chores and we got ready for supper company; we had a good time with our friends the Keevers. We always enjoy our times with them although it doesn't happen much. And....
Tori solved the Rubik's Cube!

Joshua is just one day older than Troy, so it was pretty cute to watch these little guys together.
