March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

4-2-15 First Fish

After our errands yesterday, we hiked back to this old dead tree, enjoying every step of the beautiful day (uhh some of us brought the 4wheeler)(in all fairness, so they could zip back home to help Grandpa when he got there).

After a delicious picnic lunch of fried chicken, potato salad, and chocolate cake, we enjoyed every sunshiney step of our hike home. Just kidding about the fried chicken and so on. Seems like in all the books I’ve ever read, that’s what they had; so it seemed to just kind of float off my fingertips. Really we had pbjs, ham sandwiches, Pringles, carrots, peppers, and Reece’s Pieces. Delicious yes, but it just doesn’t have the same ring to it as fried chicken, potato salad, and chocolate cake. Oh well. Maybe next time.

Today was our last day of break, but we still did a little school because it was rainy all morning. By about noon, though, it was  clear again and beautiful; the beauty stayed all afternoon even until Dad & I took a walk after supper.

  1. Fried chicken and potato salad does sound very book like! Sandwiches are a lot more practical.... :) Legend has it that my great-grandma would pack fried chicken for lunch for their weekly/monthly? trip to town so they wouldn't have to buy lunch, but she was pretty much wonder woman. :)
