Yesterday we had another fun time at the creek - - this time ASK and the Keevers joined us. Hope they had as much fun as we did! ASK took most of these px – thanks ASK! During the kids’ nap and SSR time, I went to a ladies’ only swim at Uncle Jerry’s pool - - very very relaxing and enjoyable, even though the water was a balmy 94 degrees! I got a lot of direction in my search for a new vacuum sweeper – ours went on the blink last week and we’re in the market for a new one. It’s not an easy job, this finding a new sweeper – there are only about a thousand of them on the market. Right now we’re leaning towards an Electrolux – no final decision has been made though. Anyway. Another topic of interest was corn. Yep, sweet corn was ready at Uncle Randy’s. So after supper we picked and shucked, and this morning we cooked, cooled, cut, and bagged.
Done!
Thursday’s creek fun - - -
What a crew!
This precious littlest Keever is one day younger than Josh. He was so cute playing with these little fish!
Thanks ASK for taking these px. They are adorable!
(Troy’s mom would probably digitally clean up his dirty face, but I don’t have that expertise and besides I think it adds to the charm of the picture.)
Sweet corn time - - -
“Pane!”
This morning bright and early we started cooking. Of course corn was on the breakfast menu!
Spanky kitten provided a lot of entertainment as we cut! Kate was the cooker/cooler and did a great job – she took these px betweentimes. (Jacob milked with Jesse and Levi was at CIT like usual.)
This kitten was SERIOUS about its snack!
Big helper!
We were glad for the shade as it heated up quickly. Another scorcher – highs for the day around 100 + heat index again.
This dishpan of creamed corn made about 9 quarts.
Two dishpans of regular cut corn made about 9 quarts each.
Which gave us a total of 27 quarts from about 5 bushels of corn. Which is consistent with my notes that a bushel of corn yields between five and six quarts for the freezer. I was aiming for between 25 and 30 quarts (have some in the freezer from last year yet) and I’d say I got close enough. A big job, a fun but very sticky job (that means the corn is very sweet!), and we’re glad to have it done.
One more pic from today, and I’m not sure what’s going on! Maybe someone is tired of HOT?!
That picture of the kitten with its mouth wide open and its eyes shut is so funny! That's something you'd see in Country magazine.
