September 2025
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

Farm Scenes, 29, and a Whole Lot of Cuteness

Some of us were moving a little slower than normal last Monday, which was fine as we had nothing pressing besides school. Dad & I had planned to go out for dinner for our anniversary, but Dad wasn't feeling like eating much yet so we did a date walk instead.

Calves to be shipped soon. They look good.

A little corn for them and the steers.

For the record: our beautiful century barn, complete with a barn cat watching the action.

Fences always must be checked, you know.

I know, I know, don't count your fruit until it's in the fridge. But man, these are so pretty and look so good and my hopes are so high in spite of my every attempt to remember the Japanese Beetle Battle that's coming...

So I might get nothing but a broken heart out of the deal, but I'm sure enjoying the here and now, so there.

Beautiful evening to stack a little firewood.

Then to the new fireburner - kids' birthday/Father's Day gift to Dad.

💖Happy Anniversary to us💖

Tuesday.

Jewel was at work all morning; Josh raced through his school (what's left of it) and we hit a few garage sales and MM and jackpotted on kids' books.
Some moms like shoes and purses. Some like their mochas and cappuccinos. For me - it's kids' books. With my greatroom bookcase having extra shelf space... well, it's just waiting to be filled with quality children's literature.
When we picked up Jewel after our shopping spree, Dad jumped in and went to lunch with us. What a treat!
It was a fun day all around.

Home again - math for Jewel, a few chores; then, of course, the hourse.

That would be horse.
Or hoarse?
Goofy English language anyway.

Fence repairs after supper.

Aannd - another try at The Rats Across The Road.

No dice. We suspect they have fled the premises.

To JesseLucy's for some priming and some cleaning.

And another beautiful fireburner evening.

Wednesday. Clay is always glad for Ben's study breaks.

Some favorites came for lunch.

Books and more books
😄

That's just a whole lot of cuteness right there💗

Jasper was so funny - he was intrigued with this body laying there that he couldn't really see...

while Flint thought it was great fun.

Then when Kaitlyn fell asleep and was snoring, Jasper just really had to check this out. Omy, so cute.

Meanwhile, another new pet joined the menagerie. This one is really big and somewhat mean. Josh only got bit once before he decided to pull on his leather gloves.
😖

And that was it for Wednesday.
