March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

Last Rink Skate

After rain on Tuesday night, yesterday woke up gray and rainy. Perfect day for the bright lights and crisp air of the skating rink. This last time (rink closes this weekend) was the biggest crowd so far – and again – so many smiles. True, I love to skate, but I think the smiles on kids’ faces are my favorite part. And - our “biggest crowd” of 37 skaters was still not very many skaters on the huge rink. Was a great time for all, if smiles are any indication!

Ready to play hockey. Once the scrimmage started, I vamoosed to the other end of the rink. Sticks flying, puck whizzing, kids wild fast – whew. I’m always so thankful no one is hurt (much) by the end of the afternoon.

Random smiles -

even a few that are detectable only by the dimpled cheeks -

Time to put away hockey bumpers and equipment – gotta have a few quick races before it’s time to go. Couldn’t believe the sweaty heads of some of these boys as they got off the ice. Great exercise on a gray rainy day!

Only one broken stick. Not bad!

So fun. Thanks everyone for joining us!

  1. You know what's crazy about this pictures? I don't know who any of these kids are but I can tell who (most) their parents are 'cause they look just like them.
