March 2024

March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

Our Snakes

by Jewel

We have three snakes right now. One of them, 360, isn’t shown in these pictures, but the other two are.

This is Almond, our little northern garter snake. We named him that because he’s brown and nutty.

P1190483

You maybe couldn’t tell in the other picture but he’s actually only about a foot long.

P1190484

This is Klayton, our bigger garter snake that we have.

P1190485

Jesse built this cage and screwed in the branches for a big black rat snake, and now we put any snake about Klayton’s size or bigger in it.

P1190486

Snakes are so cool the way they twist around.

P1190488

Today we took Klayton outside for a while and put him on the grapevine.

P1510962

He sort of started to tie himself in a knot.

P1510968

We liked to watch him drop and climb around on the vines.

P1510970

It wasn’t until later that we noticed he was in the shape of a figure eight or pretzel.

P1510973

If it weren’t for the grass, you wouldn’t be able to tell how big he is, and even then it’s still kind of hard.

Fun With Cousins

by Sarah

Tuesday Jewel and I went out with cousins for the day. Left to right is Kinsey, Amy, Jewel, Me, Kate, and Jenna. We did games and trampoline at Kinseys, then went out for lunch at Steak’n’Shake, and then went to Wildlife Praire Park in the afternoon. Aunt Joyce took us out, although I don’t have any pictures with her in them.

Being goofy during the car ride.

Posing with the colt at the park, although you can hardly even see it.

The otters were so cute. They would come up to the fence and just look at us waiting for a treat.

The cougers were probably my favorite animals. They were so pretty.

clip_image002[12]

These coyotes were cute too. There were also some really pretty white wolves but I don’t have a picture of them.

Afterwards we came back to our house for snack, horse rides, and more trampoline. Amy’s on Diamond.

Gray Weekend

Dad & I ran around Morton awhile on Saturday morning while the girls did my kitchen list and the boys worked on Dad’s list. Then, between rains, the last of the wood was shedded. Always good to get that job done before gardening and mowing start.

Always a little time for target practice.

P1190516

Fun to have U. Mark’s come out for some trampoline time… glad they stayed for lunch.

P1190524

A. Renee wasn’t much impressed with our new pet Almond.

P1190527

He’s kind of a cute little feller. Makes me kind of wish I liked snakes. Kind of.

P1190528

Saturday afternoon banking time, right at the kitchen table.

P1190533

Sunday church was a blessing as usual, and afterwards Ben did a little target practice. I’m not sure what he was aiming for. I think he was showing me how I could pick off blackbirds while I’m doing dishes.  Right.

P1190534

Glad to have another full table for supper and another full house for the evening; but this is the only picture I have to share. Not sure what Jesse was telling us about but based on (almost) everyone’s rapt attention it must have been good.

That’s it.

Summer Day

We loved our summer day in March. Sunny & 75 until it got cloudy; and it was still pretty warm after that. Was fun to have Levi & Echo stop by for a while in the afternoon.

P1190470

Boys are determined to put an end to the muskrats that plague Dave’s Pond. Hopefully this new tool will help.

P1190471

Sweetest little one enjoyed a nap outside.

Introducing Rascal to the newest pet.

A Few Signs Of Spring

But first, back to Friday evening sunset beauty.

IMG_1547

And back to Saturday evening guests.

Back to Sunday morning beauty.

P1190409

And back to Sunday afternoon mining fun.

P1190414

And Sunday evening fun at Grandpa Kaiser’s.

IMG_1550

Four older kids helped to Pack the Pews at Cissna Park yesterday. Ha. Have fun trying to find anyone you know. And see the shadow of the drone – pretty cool.

IMG_1554

And finally – a beautiful day today – and a few signs of spring. More mining fun, and Josh measuring the size of the coffin mine.

Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.
