March 2024

March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

5-3-15 Warren Dunes State Park

Minus Levi, Jesse, and Jacob who were working and/or studying, we loaded up in Big White on Friday morning and headed north for a long weekend in Michigan.

First off, a delicious picnic lunch when we got to the park - - -

on a beautiful day at a beautiful location.

Then some time at Lake Michigan.

There was a really brisk (interpret: COLD) breeze in spite of the beautiful sun and blue sky, but a few wet shoes soon convinced us to take shoes off - - - and then we found out the dry sand was wonderfully warm. (Although the water was definitely NOT.)

Next, a trek to the famed dunes.

P1050973

Which was very much fun,

P1050974

although very strenuous!! Especially as we got closer to the top, it was really steep, and walking in the sand was incredibly hard on the legs!

At the top. Over the bluff was an even steeper slope which afforded great entertainment for the kids (and Dad & I as we watched).

Best part: running down!!

The park wasn’t officially open for the year yet, and it was evident that they had some work to do before they were ready for the public. Sand was piled against the buildings like snowdrifts.

P1060041

More time to enjoy the beach.

P1060044

Lots of smiles.

And another trek to the top of the dune (kids only this time!), and another great run down!!!

It worked great!

We got to Jason & Carrie’s about 9ish which meant the kids could play for awhile and we adults could talk awhile, which they did and we did and we thoroughly enjoyed it!
