March 2024

March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

3-27-13 Pruning

Today again dawned sunny and beautiful. Ben took this picture of Rascal enjoying the sunshine.

Just for the record – this is what read-aloud time looks like. Cozy and peaceful. Extremely blessed. Right now I’m reading The Runaway by Patricia St. John. Book report to follow when we’re done with it.

Yesterday and today the kids have been hitting the watersprouts pretty hard. Today especially was a beautiful day to be in the orchard, and they all did so good and got a lot done.

This crew did a great job picking up the sprouts and loading them into the wagon. Of course they took some breaks too.

Jacob runs the operation,

and he does the lion’s share of the work as well, although the others certainly do a good job too.

I took a walk while they pruned, and I so appreciated the brilliant blue sky.

All but three of the bushes are covered now. I should’ve gotten a picture of the tile running into it – the melting snow is slowly raising the lake.

Also this week, Andy has been here working in the girls’ new bathroom. It is looking wonderful; but, on my way to take a few px of it, this caught my eye.

Pretty, huh? I’ll be glad to be DONE with construction dust for a good long time.

This cabinet was ordered for our master bath but could not be fitted into the space for which it was designed. So it got installed in this bathroom even though it’s a little tall for the low basement ceilings. I don’t think the girls will mind.

Vanity top is ordered but won’t be here until mid-April.

P1280466

The shower needs a curtain rod and a curtain, and it’s ready to go. Doesn’t it look nice? Andy did a great job!

There is a little bit of trimwork to do yet here and there (baseboard, painting by ceiling, around toilet topper, vanity kickboard, windowsill), but that’s about it. Tom came and measured for carpet today; that should be in by the end of next week, so we can potentially schedule that install for the end of next week or beginning of next.

The end is in sight.

Good night.

Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ. I Corinthians 1:3
