This time around, Hey Kids is aimed at you big kids.
It’s about a vision you kids had for over a year and then made into a reality – the ice skating rink.
Simply put, YOU DID IT!
From the start, this was you kids’ project, simply because Dad & Mom didn’t have time to do it. We did the cheerleading and encouraging, but you kids had the time and made it happen. It certainly didn’t just show up – it took a lot of planning and effort. You kids worked hard to get this thing up and going, and it has been a ton of fun. We weren’t sure it was going to work out because at that time we simply didn’t have a good water supply. In spite of that – you persevered, you set your vision on the goal, you worked hard, and you got ‘er done. We watched you spend hours on the internet researching this thing. You talked to people and gathered as much information as you could. You collected materials and started building. You pulled together and worked as a team when some of you had jobs that took you away from the project. You ran into problems and solved them as you went. And how many hours did you haul water? Nobody counted, but it was a lot.
And then you waited patiently for the cold. And you waited. And waited. And waited. It came just in time for Christmas when you had a great day with cousins here. What a fun time. Lots of smiles and laughter. Many wipeouts and memories. But it didn’t end then, because since then you all have spent literally hours on that rink. Mom’s had fun on it too. Dad – not so much the skating, but he has enjoyed our fun and the fun of the many friends that joined us on the ice.
The rink needs constant maintenance too. After every skate, the ice chips have to be scooped off and a new topcoat has to be sprayed on. We see you work together to get it ready for the next skate, and nary a word of complaint or regret do we hear. Last week’s thaw brought a new host of problems – and we saw you tackle them without hesitation. Holes were repaired, water was refilled (a much easier process since we have a strong well now), boards were fixed and reinforced. You got it ready for cold again. When the cold came again – the rink was ready. And now you are enjoying still more skating.
It’s been a good thing, this ice rink, and we’re really glad that all your hard work paid off.
The lesson – hard work pays off.
The payoff – hours of fun.
GOOD JOB, KIDS!!!
Keep on keepin’ on.
Dad & Mom
