March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

4-4-12 Winter? Spring? Summer?

Kate requested lasagna for her birthday meal, so yesterday we did a marathon kitchen morning and had enough lasagna and garlic bread to share and freeze both. I didn’t get any px of Kate’s birthday dessert, chocolate pie, or the other projects we had going either; suffice it to say it was a busy morning.

So after running a few errands which ended with a walk at PP with Dad, school meetings, chores, and a nap for Joshua, the kids were ready for some fun on a hot 85-degree summer day. The sun was behind clouds by the time we got to the lake, but it was still plenty hot enough – except that the water was still pretty cold after the 1.5 inches of rain we got Saturday night.

When Jacob says it’s pretty cold, then it must be REALLY REALLY cold – but that didn’t stop him from enjoying his frozen blueberries in his inner tube.

P1190376

Go Jacob!

Jewel had a good share of blueberries too, but there was probably a bit of blue chill to her lips too!

A great thing about a lake  - - if it’s too cold to swim, there’s always plenty of other adventure to find. Toads were the talk of this day.

Back home for another pan of ASK’s wonderfully creative birthday bars!

P1190384

A few gifts to open after supper…

(With very excited help from Josh!)

In case you ever wondered, living with 3 young men is a lot of fun. Their constant battle to be ruler of the roost provides unending entertainment :)

Josh loves to help Kate make pancakes. He’s pretty disappointed when she makes them without him, so she’s the best big sister and wakes him up to help.

Aren’t his camouflage pajamas just so cute?!!! Or maybe it’s his snuggly sleepy bedhead look - - - whatever it is, it’s precious!

P1190411

Evening walk with Dad tonight ended with touring the farm. Strawberries behind red shed look promising (for the kids, not me).

P1190428

Same for the berries behind the wood shed.

P1190429

Lots of pretty blossoms.

P1190430

Beautiful evening.

P1190431

Tour ended at the raspberries which needed attention.

P1190432

Beautiful but very very cool - - good thing the winter coats are still in the closet!

P1190434

P1190436

Lots of good help (all but Levi & Jesse who went Easter carolling with the young group).

P1190438

 P1190440

Much better!

Beautiful moon.

P1190455

Sign of spring - bleeding heart.

P1190457

With his cold, Josh was pretty grouchy all day. He got a second wind after Bibletime though and gave Daddy a good workout!
