Sometimes it seems like life is pretty much maintenance around here. Yesterday the kids maintained the lawn. Without it, we’d have a hayfield or weedpatch instead of a yard.
Then there’s maintenance of our physical bodies, which is the unending blessing of preparing food. This morning was that kind of maintenance.
We did some spring cleaning then, which is another kind of maintenance. We try to maintain a healthy level of cleanliness, and if we aren’t constantly maintaining, the dust bunnies and clutter win.
Then everyone got to help with more maintenance projects outside.
Earlier in the week the rat-infested corn feeder was hauled away (which hadn’t been used for many years since the price of corn went so high and we switched to feeding wet gluten). Today the remaining rats were ferreted out and destroyed (mostly by Rascal from what I heard), the corn feeder was burned in a gully, and this whole area got some much-needed improvement. New steel went on part of the shed, with the rest to be steeled as scraps show up (which they somehow seem to do).
Leveling.
Gate to be replaced.
Knocking some holes for air.
Show’s over. Time to head home.
Jacob spent a few afternoons this week making this bridge.
New gate.
Shed to be painted.
“Wish I could paint!”
(don’t worry, little sister, you’ll get your turn…)
Another repaired gate.
Inspector Grandpa.
Steel of corn feeder will be scrapped.
After chores were done and maintenance projects for the day were completed, we thoroughly enjoyed an evening of food, fun, friends, and fellowship with ASK, the Wagenbachs, and their guests, the Edelmans from Kansas. A great way to end a great day!
