9-5-10 Day 4 – Rain and COLD

Everyone slept good, and we had a cold breakfast before settling in for church. Dad was able to bring it in live on his computer, but internet is so slow out here we couldn’t listen very well – start, stop, start, stop, etc.  So Dad led us in our regular family worship instead, and we had a good time of discussing and learning about Matthew 5, the Beatitudes. With the kids getting older, their observations, opinions, and input bring both challenge and satisfaction (and sometimes humor) to our Bibletime. Today was no exception, and one of our conclusions was simply that we as Christians should always be smiling at others; the joy of the Lord should be evident to everyone who comes in contact with us. Sure, we’re going to have down days, but we should still always remember the truth and joy of our salvation through Jesus and SHOW it so others are ‘hooked’ by it. Also we can show it by DOING things for other; as salt improves flavor of food, so we should be constantly striving to improve others’ lives by serving them however we can.

Joshua took a good nap during the last half of our Bible lesson, and Dad and the other kids roamed the river while I blogged. When Joshua woke up, we all loaded up for a trip to town. We had lunch at a local pizza place, and enjoyed the beautiful view while we ate outside. Then we went to get groceries for the week (planned for yesterday but were too tired when we got here), and Levi got his fishing license etc. before we came back to the cabin. I laid down for a minute in an attempt to beat a growing headache, and quickly fell asleep for awhile. Meanwhile, Levi and Ben went out fishing in the COLD, and Dad took a hike on a nearby trail with the rest of the kids (except Jesse (I think) who stayed here to read). I woke up feeling much better, and did some record-keeping and organizing tasks – seems like some of my jobs come with me. Dad and all the kids came back as it started to rain, and I put Joshua down for a nap while they watched a fishing show on TV. Everyone pitched in to make supper, we all ate supper, did dishes, did Bibletime, continuing on in Proverbs, and then Levi went fishing again while the rest of us got ready for bed. We played a game of Memory, which Kate soundly won, and then watched some dvds that I had borrowed from the library. Then beds for all.

These fascinating rock formations were a mile or so from our cabin. They looked like man-made walls, but we didn’t think they were. Pretty neat.
