September 2025
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

9-10-10 Day 9 – Cold Friday

Very cold – a good day for a 4 hour scenic drive and a museum visit.

We were up earlier than usual (for vacation, anyway) and leaving here by 7:00, headed for the Buffalo Bill Historical Museum in Cody, Wyoming, via the Chief Joseph Scenic Highway.  And it was BEAUTIFUL.  We took many pictures, but they just hardly did justice to the scenery. Everyone really enjoyed the museum until about 2:30, and then we headed back the way we came; but with no stops we made it home in 3.5 hours. Supper was leftovers, and then we spent some time down at the river in our backyard…I was kind of jumpy because the last 2 evenings there was a grizzly here about this time, but he never showed up.  We were probably too noisy. We also enjoyed meeting our vacation neighbors, a homeschooling family with six children from Pennsylvania.  Then we all came in for Bibletime and beds.

We were intrigued by the free-range stock that was wandering all over – no fences, so all the cattle was branded.

On to the museum – pictures didn’t turn out very well because of the dim lighting, but Kate took a bunch anyway so I’ll post some.

This was in the firearms museum – most notable because this record-setting polar bear was shot by a woman!

On the way home, we saw this plateau from the road up high, and it had cows grazing on it. A very beautiful scene, but the picture didn’t turn out. We were curious as to how they got up there; the backside of the plateau is a hill rather than a cliff, and the cows just walk right up.

The youngest son of the Brooks family joined right in with our kids’ games down at the creek – they all seemed to have a good time, it was a beautiful evening, and we did NOT see any bears, thankfully.

That’s it.
