March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

Hey Kids

 Hey kids...

Last month was really busy with wedding showers and hosting Thanksgiving and a lot of other stuff that might or might not eventually get blogged. And Dad & I like to have all you kids here every once in a while which is getting more and more difficult to do. With nine kids in five-soon-to-be-six homes, with six-soon-to-be-seven adult kids with equally busy lives, with church/friend/extended family/work/travel/etc. obligations, this scheduling a family night is a challenge indeed. So last month we finally got one scheduled, and it was the evening after an afternoon shower for Jacob & Natalie. Which was very do-able except that I wasn't here to get supper on. So...

Sarah & Jewel did it.

And they did it flawlessly. They had help, to be sure (see list, below)(and Tori came out a little early); but they were not only perfectly capable but also willing to help out and pitch in. I pretty much jumped in the wagon, and they pretty much pulled it.

Sometimes you older kids tend to think the younger crew is soft. Or something. Well, just so you know, they aren't. I came home from the shower and found the house tidy, table set, drinks poured, and all food deliciously hot and ready except the apple crisp which was ready to go in the oven as soon as the pizza casserole came out.

Thanks girls, y'all are the BEST.

Keep on keepin' on.

Dad & Mom
