March 2024

March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

Fourth Week of June

 After Father's Day dinner, this.

Happy Birthday Tori and Jasper!

It was muggy but this crew didn't seem to care.

Monday was laundry day and idk what else. That evening was beautiful.

On Tuesday, ASK met Josh and me at 360YC; we did a few garage sales before picking up Jewel after work. Actually ASK got Jewel, and they three went to Culver's for lunch, then home to the lake, while I had some dental work done. It was not my Best Day Ever.
But I did get to enjoy this beautiful evening.

Later on, Josh rode with Jewel. Doesn't he look dashing? Such a handsome young man.

Wednesday we had a few friends down to the lake. It was cool but kids didn't care. This was the first of eight fish that Josh caught!

Henry caught a few fish also.

💗

Rudy and Jack kept busy building -

while Jason liked his first kayak ride.

 Laurie left with Rayna -

-and Sarah left with Jo and Ella -

- and somehow Sarah returned with Rayna, Jo, and Ella. Not sure how this happened!

No smile but he really was happy!

More kayak rides.

These three chums made it out to the dock; once dried off, they didn't want to swim back. Water was pretty cold. Somehow they got a kayak out there and Jewel ferried the other two to the bank. We're definitely ready for the water to warm back up.

Thursday afternoon. Not cool. Not cool at all.

Friday this crew (plus Echo) came for lunch. Rain was predicted; it didn't rain until later so kids got to be outside some. Josh helped ASK pick up some sticks later then in her backyard.

Last evening Dad & I walked while these two took a joyride. Older kids were scattered hither and yon.

These are called Fourth of July Peaches. There are still pretty many even though we lost so many last weekend.

We are not counting any peaches however until they are in our hands!!!

Meanwhile, the view to the west -

and to the south -

Golden Delicious tree is looking good also. We lost almost none of the later fruit; the only peaches and apples we lost last weekend were the ones ready in early July. We *hopefully* will still have plenty of fall apples for sauce, pies, fresh, cake, dried, etc. It's in our Good Lord's hands and we will praise Him for none or few or many. We plant and water (and prune and thin and prop) but only He gives the increase. So thankful He always knows best. He is so good!

Pears 😄

The rain did hit us last night - 1.8" worth and we are thankful. Others got more though, so we're also thankful that we didn't get more.

This morning we did up a kettle of last weekend's windfalls. They did not cook up well at all. They had no juice so I kept adding water so they wouldn't scorch. Which they didn't. But they took a loonng time to soften up enough to rice. But they looked like sauce and smelled like sauce, so we kept going. Once they were riced, we kept adding more and more and more sugar until they were edible... but the sauce was still sour...
so...
the rest of the apples got pitched to the cows😕.
Next time I'll know. Storm-caused windfalls are not edible.
Now, if we were starving we might just have a different interpretation...
but we're not...
so...
that's that.

Sarah & Jewel snuck in a horse ride between jobs. Hoping to beat the rain in the forecast. Which they did.

And now the rain is starting again and we'll see what comes of that. Very very humid. I know it's such a little snowflake thing - but I praise God for air conditioning. On days like today - cloudy, wet, sticky, so humid I can hardly get a deep breath - I remember why I wouldn't have made a good pioneer. And I appreciate our air conditioning!!!

Many, O LORD my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.

Last Work Day

I'm not sure what all was going on inside, but I did double duty as Grandma and Yard Supervisor. My crew of helpers was so cute. And strong!

But of course there was time for play.

Nice day for lunch outside.

Marv and Nathan moved in a few things from A. Sarah's garage.

I was going to insert a few "before" px here but don't really want to take the time. Maybe when I have some extra time I'll dig them out and post a few. It's an amazing transformation that's for sure.
