March 2024

March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

Steiner Wiener Roast

Well so life lately has been racing completely out of control. Can't believe it's almost November. And the countdown to our FL vacation is 6 weeks and 2 days. That means the college kids' semester is almost over and another homeschool year is almost half over. And just where, I ask you, does the time go?
Well, here's just a little peek at where it goes at our house.

Playing ~

Making pillows out of leaves ~

Apples!
Although our orchard gave us a whopping 3 (three) fall apples (that's not 3 bushels, that's 3 (three) apples), many kind friends shared their excess with us and we are so grateful!! We've had smooth apple sauce,  fresh chunky cinnamon applesauce, apples pies, apple crisps, apples and caramel, apples plain, and the dehydrator has been going for a few days now and we are loving the apple chips that come out of it (because I like them really really dry and chip-y as opposed to kind of dry and rubbery). Haven't made apple cake yet but hope to soon. Oh, and Better-Than-Cracker-Barrel Fried Apples were really good too.
So. Yeah.
That's a lot of time in that picture. But man, it's some really good kind of time.

Taking care of horses ~

Dad and Josh spent a few Saturdays and evenings building this outdoor fly pen for Josh's pigeons (that Levi gave him and is helping him raise). As of today, Josh told me they're starting to get brave and use it.

Mowing ~

Riding horses ~

Enjoying beautiful sunsets ~
This picture absolutely did not do justice to the reality of this sunset. Can't wait for heaven where we can enjoy such beauty forever.

Inside wiener roast at U. Dave's because it was rainy on Sunday night ~

And that's all for now.  Time to rustle up some supper for the crew.

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
Matthew 11:28-30
