March 2024

March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

First Swim

by Jewel

Tuesday Kinsey came over for awhile and so we went down to the creek for about ten minutes before we had to come home and do chores before the rain hit.

Dad's still working away on the wood pile.

Wednesday we had the usuals, minus Ben plus Jovi.

After begging for a ride all morning, Cason and Clay finally got one.

What a cutie!

Clay was a little leery of getting up in the saddle, but once he was up there, he thought he was really, really cool.

Jovie was so happy to be outside.

It was so hot that once Jovie got picked up at noon, we put water in the sandbox for the boys. There were a few fights over sharing the hose, but for the most part they loved it.

Katie thought about taking them to the lake, but didn't want to get them totally soaked so decided the sandbox would be the dryer route. I don't think it mattered much.

Kinsey came over later then, and so we went to the creek to get clay, and Kinsey and I got totally soaked. Kinsey spotted a little turtle too. Josh and Sarah caught it then, so that was another plus.

We came home, did chores, and then begged Mom to let us swim at the lake.

The creek was icy cold, and maybe that's the reason the lake water felt so warm (just kidding, the water was actually pretty cold, except for the top six inches).

Thursday Suzanne stopped by for awhile with Bristol and Auggie. Bristol thought York the baby snapping turtle was pretty cute.

Friday we had three Baers, and Henry was intrigued with York.

There was a fair amount of excitement when Brandi found a mama possum and eight babies in the barn manger.

When Levi and Echo stopped by later, Kiowa was also pretty impressed with York and the new chicks.
Thanks for getting rid of the mama possum and babies, Levi!

We had supper around the fire before Tori took us ice-skating.

We played some frisbee before we left.

Dad and Mom apparently had an exciting evening cutting wood. Fun.

Jacob helped too before he came skating with us.

And Josh helped too.

Meanwhile Katie and Tamra introduced Tate to the joy of riding horses.

 It was a great night.

Saturday morning.

Right after lunch, Katie and I took the horses around the field across the road. We had a perfect view of the horizon and could just see it building and it was windy, and so awesome. We ran right into the cold front too. We made it back about five or ten minutes before it started really raining.

By 1:00 or so it had started storming, so Sarah, Josh, and I had an eventful afternoon petting kittens.

The sun came out again eventually though, and so when we babysat Kiowa, we spent most of the evening outside. She is, by the way, a total ham.
Here she is trying to wink.

The End.
