Last Monday we had to have Rascal put down by the vet. She was a very fearful dog, so she would snap at strangers who tried to pet her. When she was younger, whenever we had company, she would just run and hide; but as she got older she wouldn’t do that. Now that Kiowa could potentially be walking pretty soon, we didn’t want her to get bit. We’re going to get another dog though. Tori has already gone to look at some puppies. Jesse might also get a dog.
Now for a few pictures.
Last Saturday we made a batch of salsa and did a bunch of applesauce.
Saturday night we went to Tim and Trish Wagenbach’s for a shed singing. Levi & Echo and Grandpa & Grandma Kaiser went up there too. Kiowa had an audience during most of the supper.
There were several different groups that sang. Brush Arbor went first, there was a father/son duo that went second, and then we went last. At the end, all the groups came up to do a song together. Over all it was a pretty great evening.
Last Sunday we went to the Levi Sauder Reunion at the Cullinan Park. Right here Josh “fell out of a tree and broke his leg,” so we had to take him to the “hospital” and do an operation. The operating table was a park bench.
The older kids played some hotbox too. It was fairly funny to watch them. It was pretty rainy so a lot of action was under the pavilion although there were a few wet kids who played frisbee and catch in the rain. This is a great action shot.
Last Monday was when the vet came out to put Rascal down. Levi had come out to help hold Rascal, and he brought Kiowa with him to help with morale.
She is such a little cheese!!!!
She looks like a Sauder in this picture.
The socks suggest Jewel was the photographer.
Josh making pancakes one day last week.
The last two peaches from our trees. Mom said they were delicious.
Last week was a pretty good one, and hopefully this week is too.
Mom’s 2c -
Well, so, yes, last week was a pretty good one in spite of the rough Monday afternoon. As the old song goes, [Rascal] has gone where the good doggies go, and no more with old [Rascal] will I roam. And if dogs have a heaven, there’s one thing I know, that old [Rascal] has a wonderful home. The words are fitting for Rascal too. She really was a good dog in so many ways. If only she wouldn’t have been so fearful that she snapped at any little kids who reached out to pet her (which most little kids like to do). That’s one big if only. She was so smart in other ways, and she knew so many words it was amazing, and she was so good at sounding the alarm when anyone pulled into the driveway. And oh my, it’s only been a week and the cats are taking over the farm. They are everywhere. Patio. Backyard. Driveway. Shed. Paw prints on my grill do not a happy mama make. Neither does cat scat in the shed a happy papa make. Some major training has been happening but success is definitely not coming yet. Cold weather will help I’m thinking. So yeah, anyway, we miss Rascal already. It was NOT an easy decision to make, because, like I said, she was such a good dog in all other ways. We all miss her a lot.
And, like Sarah reported – Tori has spoken for a chocolate lab that we’ll be getting in a month or so, and Jesse is talking about getting a dog too. Both potential dog owners say they will do the necessary training to keep said canines off our *very* unfriendly and busy and FAST road, which is very important because in case you haven’t shopped for a dog lately – dogs are not cheap. Free farm dogs don’t exist anymore. Just another sign of the times.
Anyway. Ramble time is up.
Gotta keep moving.
